We went to this restaurant expecting to eat some of the best food in Folegandros (an island that set the standards high for us, considering that everything we had in other restaurants was really good). The atmosphere is really classy and romantic, definitely a good aspect of our experience.

As for the food, it was unfortunately disappointing. The kidneys we ordered weren't properly cooked; they were rather dry and their texture didn't seem like we were eating kidneys at all. The knuckle of lamb was properly cooked but completely flavorless and bland (unsalted and unseasoned). The matsata (the island's local pasta) was by far the worst we had during our trip. The eggplant rolls and the Paliomilos salad were decent, but nothing special. We left the restaurant with a poor impression, feeling like we dined in a tourist trap. All in all, this place isn't worth it. It is a fancy-looking and atmospheric place, posing as a traditional winery-restaurant. You could give it a try, but speaking from our experience during our trip, you can eat better food nearly anywhere else than here.

EDIT after the restaurant's response: I mistyped kidneys when I actually referred to the giblets/chicken livers. The fact that they said I'm reviewing the restaurant with "malicious intent" for a typo shows how they cannot actually accept a negative review. Also, indeed I didn't try any of the wines, that's why I said that this place is only posing as a traditional winery-RESTAURANT, because the food is nowhere near good. If they are so proud about their wine labels, then why not stop serving mediocre food and just focus on...

Review: Enchanting Winery Restaurant in Folegandros Island

Nestled in the heart of Folegandros Island, this winery restaurant is a hidden gem that offers a delightful escape into a world of culinary excellence and natural beauty. As you step into the garden, you're greeted by a lush expanse of greenery, with towering trees providing a serene canopy. The atmosphere is both tranquil and invigorating, making it the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.

The live music is a standout feature, with talented musicians providing the perfect soundtrack to your evening. The hosts are warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. Their passion for hospitality is evident in every interaction, adding a personal touch that enhances the overall experience.

The food is nothing short of spectacular, with a menu that showcases the best of local cuisine. Each dish is expertly prepared, bursting with fresh flavors that celebrate the island's rich culinary heritage. The white wines are exceptional, perfectly complementing the meals and enhancing the dining experience with their crisp, refreshing notes.

In summary, this winery restaurant in Folegandros Island is a true delight. With its enchanting garden, fantastic live music, wonderful hosts, and outstanding food and wine, it offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you longing to return. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a taste...

The absolute best meal we had in Greece! Innovative spin on traditional dishes that were beyond memorable. We were in Santorini, Sifnos, and Folegrandos for two weeks. This was our favorite spot - beautiful live piano music, delicious red wine ages in oak from the winery, and every dish was a winner. We had the potato salad with smoked mackerel (which redefined my thinking on how a perfectly boiled potato can become fine dining), beef cheeks in red wine sauce over the traditional hand rolled pasta, beef tenderloin baked in parchment with peppers, onions, and potatoes. We couldn’t resist getting two desserts: the local pears in syrup with mastic ice cream and the chocolate cake, which both went really well with the winery’s red sweet wine to finish. Seriously planning our entire next summer to make sure we can come back to this absolute gem of a restaurant in Folegrandos! The waitstaff are also incredibly kind...

Your trip to Folegandros will not be complete without a visit to the Paliomilos Winery for their excellent wine, produced on the premises (the only wine producer on Folegandros) or their equally superb food - preferably try both! The setting gives you a view of the white and illuminated Church of Panagia, the island’s must-see attraction. The owners of this family-run business could not have been more welcoming and congenial. We also enjoyed chatting to their daughter who is learning the wine business and has a real passion for it. We enjoyed Beef Kleftiko and Lamb Shank and a bottle of the red Stagma wine, which was all delicious. The wine itself stood out as especially high quality but it was all just so good, but not in any way pretentious. We will be going back to Domaine Paliomilos before we go home and I urge you to go there too - such places are rare finds - you will be glad you happened upon it!

One of our favorite meals in town. We came on a Saturday and there was delightful live music. The ambiance in the courtyard is so cozy and romantic too. If you’re a red wine drinker I highly recommend the reserve, it’s very good and the sommelier will bring it out with a decanter and ask you to wait 10 minutes. The food was pleasant as well, highly recommend the beef cheeks with the local pasta!! This was our favorite. My only constructive feedback is for the staff and kitchen to space out the meals. We ordered two appetizers and a main to share and this all came out basically at the same time and before our wine was finished decanting. That’s not a very pleasant way to eat, felt overwhelming and rushed. I will say this seemed to be a common thing among restaurants here but I think this restaurant is of a higher caliber and could adjust accordingly.
