We staied in the Blue Sky apartments for 10 nights. It was affordable and at our convenience because it was very close to the harbour (we arrived in Karpathos by ferry). It was in the center of Pigadia, very close to many facilities as supermarkets, restaurants, car/atv/scooter rental shops. Our room was on the second floor (number 5), not easily reachable with heavy and large luggage because of a narrow stairs (there is no lift) but with all basic equipment as fridge, a small freezer, face towels, sheets, the kitchen was enough equipped but we never used it, there was also a small tv, a long balcony with enough space to put the washing on the line. There was no hair dryer, no body towels, no oven, and usually little water for the shower after 7pm (but I think it was a problem for all the houses). Our towels were changed about every day and sheets about every 3 days. Cleanliness was good (not excellent). Double bed was enough comfortable and large. I think that wireless connection was free but I didn't try it. There was air conditioning but not free (5euros per night) and we didn't use it because there was enough (not too much) wind to refresh the room leaving windows open..but pay attention in this way it was needed earplugs during the night because we had street view (an uphill road). Payment only by cash. In short words, an unassuming greek...
Read moreReally big room BUT dirty. They hadn't bothered to clean up after the previous customers. They had only changed the sheets and towels and they had given us supposedly clean ones but with stains and holes (!!!) in them. The drawers had some leftover food and some hair inside. Both showers had sand in them. The A/C charge was 5 euro per day which is unheard of and there was only ONE A/C unit for TWO bedrooms, so you had to leave the doors open. Really long balcony but with no separators between rooms, so anyone can get in your room if you leave the balcony door open while sleeping or taking a shower. The kitchen utensils were old and the kettle was the oldest, scaliest and grimiest kettle we had ever seen. We were required to pay 50 euro/day for that filth, and when we asked the landlady to come and check the room and send someone to clean up AGAIN she said that the room was clean enough (!!!!), that this amount of dirt was normal, and that we paid too much attention to detail rather than having a good time, and "Go! Go! Get out of here!", and she kicked us out. As we were leaving we saw a "FOR SALE" sign on the door, so they probably were not going to spend any money on a derelict business they want...
Read moreGreat location in the center of town, two blocks from the port, groceries and restaurants nearby, a farmer's market next door. These are small apartments, one or two bedrooms, with nearly fully equipped kitchens. But the place is for budget travelers--minimal cleaning service--though they will replace towels daily and empty trash, that's about it. The older woman who runs it doesn't speak much English but her daughter is quite fluent and helpful and will give you her phone number. Wifi was a little spotty but I've had much worse in four star places. The price is right, so if you want to stay a while it is...
