Castello Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Kissamos

Misleading and disappointing. We stopped by Castello Taverna after seeing the decent or exaggerated reviews (4.4 stars) and were hoping for a good, simple meal. We specifically asked the staff if they had chicken gyros and pork gyros, and they clearly said yes. We placed our order and also asked for 1 liter of house wine.

A few minutes later, I went to the toilet and passed by the kitchen area. I noticed there were no meat grills, no gyros rotisserie, and no signs of freshly grilled meat. I politely asked where the gyros were being prepared, and the staff admitted that the meat was frozen and simply reheated.

We immediately cancelled our order and left. This is completely unacceptable, especially when you're in Crete where fresh grilled food is a standard in most tavernas. If they had been honest from the beginning, we would have simply chosen another dish or another place.

Disappointing experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Greek food or fresh...

By the time you get to this Taverna in Kissamos you should know what to expect from a taverna.

Well this place meets and exceeds expectations.

You want spaghetti? Go to Italy. I don't even know why you'd write to complain about Bolognese in Kissamos.

Want to be turned down instead of accommodated to sit at this restaurant in a super small town in busy season? Try France.

You are in Greece and you're on vacation. Here they will go out of their way to make a table for you. No one goes hungry.

Enjoy yourself and relax. There's literally nothing else to do. Take your time and be thankful that this small beautiful village has fresh and delicious food available.

As.for the food- We had Dakos (which is a hard bread, tomato, fresh cheese and olive) and it was amazing. We had gyros. A huge plate of meat of all types. Some potatoes and some taziki. We had a Greek salad.

This place is HORRIBLE. Dont eat there !! If I could give Zero Stars I would ! It started with a visit at the toilet and it was disgusting! There was a big piece of sh... Accompanied from several dead cockroaches. We still decided to eat there to give the food a chance. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing too! Our Greek salad was underwhelming. It looked pretty different from the picture in the menu. There was no feta cheese but some cream cheese version of it. There were 5 tiny olives and the tomatoes looked like the leftovers from another dish. Everything was completely prepared without love. I shared my experiences as feedback with them and they just didn't care and didn't offer us apologies. Also, they made us pay for the 4 slices of dry bread that we didn't...
