BEACH BED RENTAL: I had a bad experience trying to rent 2 beach beds for the day, on my second visit to this restaurant. The owner wanted to charge me €12 per person. You don't have to pay for the bed but you must spend a minimum of €24 in his restaurant throughout the day, which isn't a bad deal. (I had mistakenly only paid €14 total on my first visit a couple of days before, when it should've been €24. This was my misunderstanding).
I decided to move one restaurant down the beach to rent a sunbed (10 metres) as I had been there previously. It is only €6 per bed and the service, food, beds, and atmosphere is much better. This part of the beach is the sandiest part, which is why you might want to get a sunbed here.
If you don't mind less sand then 50 metres further down the beach the beds are only €4 each for the day, the food is similar to By Nikos and you get service to your sunbed.
FOOD: On my first visit to By Nikos my daughter had a nice, well filled, freshly baked, ham and cheese baguette, which was good. I had a not-so-well filled cheese and ham toastie and a nice fresh orange juice, totalling €14. So it's not beyond belief that you could spend €12 per person.
If you just want a beach bed then there are other, cheaper options on this...
Read moreSun beds are 5 euro per. I read the reviews and thought sun beds would be included with the food price. Someone mentioned spending 12 euros buying you a bed here. When I walked in, I asked if we could use the beds after eating, I was NOT told it there would be an extra charge. Maybe it is a peak time thing? I ordered pizza and gyros. The food is average, nothing special. Update: first of all, I was stating a fact about the sun bed to help others to make informed decisions. after the review was left, my 2 little girls and I were walking back to our hotel, I heard a ‘sorry’ coming from a car driver. I thought my daughter was in the car’s way, so I called out and asked her to step aside. It turned out to be the owner’s wife! She drove up again and said to me ‘now you don’t want to talk? Everyone pay for the sun beds.’ Maybe she was only trying to apologise, but I felt quite threatened with her especially driving up to us. As for the food, I did say wow because the pizza looked big to me. The gyros chicken was dry. Obviously we carry water in hot weather and i did order drinks too. Whatever lacks at this establishment, it appears that they really DO care...
Read morePopped in here after checking out of the Continental Palace Hotel round the corner for lunch. We passed this little taverna so many times on the way out to places, never went in til our last day, totally gutted we missed it! It's an inobtrusive, obviously family run place, tucked next to one of the "suicide scooter" hire shops. No frills about the taverna; just a warm welcome, and although we only had burgers, they were the best we'd eaten in years. Plus two big pints of the legendary Mythos on draught..... Considering the vast choice of restaurants in Kos, can't believe we had this one on our doorstep all along 😪 If you're out that way, do give By Nikos a visit, good food, reasonable price, and...
