In September 2016 my family and I visited Kos. I rented a Vespa to see the Asklepion and unfortunately had a bad accident on the way there. Thinking that I would have to scooter to the hospital myself I was in a sorry state when by a huge stoke of luck Mr. Mavromatis happened to find me driving by in his car. He drove me to the hospital and made sure I saw a doctor. Not only this, when I emerged from care I found out that he had gone back to the accident site, retrieved the scooter, returned it to the rental company and worked things out for the damages. He then proceeded to feed me (Swordfish Souvlaki) and tried to refuse payment. This restaurant is owned by incredible people who go so far out of their way for a stranger in need. Everyone who visits Greece should come and eat at this restaurant owned by these wonderful, noble people. Also the Swordfish Souvlaki...
Read moreI have eaten at some great places but this rates highly. My family (8 of us in all) always find it hard to find somewhere to accommodate us for dinner. Mavromatis not only accommodated us they made our holiday so much more enjoyable. We actually ate here 3 times over the course of our week's holiday in Kos we chose there to have lunch on our last day.
The moment you walk in you are made to feel like a returning friend. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The whole environment is exceptional, with tables on the beach if you want one. The view is incredible, wherever you sit. As for the food, what can I say, it's fantastic. With 6 children ranging in age from 12 to 18 it's hard to find something for everyone to eat. Not at Mavromatis. There is plenty of choice (even for the vegetarians amongst us) and the quality it superb.
We can't recommend this place...

Reading all reviews it looked like meat dishes were less quality then fish, but I can tell this is not really applicable that day.
I ordered a Greek salad as starter, which was great. The main course a mixed souvlaki was very nice, even included tasteful rice and fries . The souvlaki was freshly hand-made with pepper and unions. Really tender and good chicken and pork meat.
My wife and son also were happy about the feta filled peppers and mussels. Seems that the spaghetti was broken, which is a no-go in Italy, but it's acceptable in Greece 😆.
Also the greek deserts are good quality.
I really recommend...
