Ate out with a large group, for a special meal, at Krista's. At first glance, items on the menu seemed pricier than usual. We were willing to overlook that because of the nature of the outing. The food was good enough, but I've had better at other restaurants in Kardamena. What ruined this outing for us, however, was the appallingly bad attitude and rudeness of the owner. Despite us being a large group ordering plenty of drinks and food, she was rude to anyone who wanted to have just a drink, or to eat something in the lower price range - this was the last day of our holiday, so not everyone had lots of cash to splash, and some had dietary issues so couldn't order off the menu. One of our party was feeling a little off-colour, and the moment she requested something simple to eat, she got the sharp end of Krista's tongue. She also gave up all appearance of being hospitable when we had barely finished our food, handing out our bills before we could even consider if we wanted dessert. The bills were handwritten, and hard to understand. I was certain I'd been overcharged, but decided not to make a fuss. Those who did query their bills (and there were a few who were overcharged!) were spoken to rudely, and even with aggression. The other servers were okay - but not the owner. She was not interested in what anyone had to say. I have never seen restaurant patrons anywhere, ever, treated as this lady was treating us. Truly shocking! If she'd been nicer, she would have got the extra in tips, but she seemed to think no-one would notice if they were charged more. I got the impression that she would only be nice to customers spending lots of money unquestioningly. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are much nicer places...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to this restaurant last night for dinner, completely oblivious to the reviews. We had a really lovely meal at this restaurant. They are one of just a few actually-Greek family run restaurants (most are Albanian - not an issue - but if youāre looking for the traditional Greek taverna itās worth noting). We had walked down the whole beach stretch pricing up menus before we decided to return to Kristas. We found them to be the cheapest, with the most extensive traditional Greek section in the menu. We havenāt yet compared prices along the marina stretch, or indeed deeper in the town. So, it may be that their prices are slightly higher, but this is to be expected as you are also paying for the premium of being on the beachfront and the ambiance that accompanies that. We ordered a shared starter, a moussaka (best Iāve had in a long time) and yemista, as well as a baklava and a Greek yoghurt dessert - also both delicious - and 1L of wine. We spent 71⬠total (35⬠per person), which personally, I find incredibly good value for the beach front. The service was lovely, Antonis (father) and son Giorgos were very friendly but we also spoke to several of the other staff and they were very thoughtful and kind. We will definitely come back to try other things on the menu. We cannot yet speak for the sun bed experience. However, having travelled frequently to the Greek Islands, eating and drinking at a restaurant in exchange for their sunbeds for the day is pretty standard practice. You do usually have to signal your intent and order a drink quickly to avoid being charged for the sunbeds, but I think thatās fair enough, otherwise people would take advantage and avoid paying. But...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been many times in Greece and I have never experienced something like this. We went there just because they had two sun beds available at the front raw (10 euros- i donāt know if all the restaurants charge for sunbeds or not but at that moment it didnāt matter to me). The first awkward situation was when the guy who rented me the sun beds came to my husband yelling that he can not stay there without asking the stuff first. He didnāt recognize me, ok, i thought it can happen to everybody, maybe he didnāt need to yell but ok, we ended up ordering coffee and everything was fine. The second incident happened after my two boys who ate lunch at the restaurant (me and my husband usually eat only dinner) came to the sunbeds while i was in the water. I was swimming and i heard screaming and yelling, i turned and i saw a woman yelling at my kids that they didnāt pay for the lunch. It was so embarrassing, i asked her from the water if i needed to get out to pay in that very moment and she told me to do so immediately. She obviously didnāt know that that the boys were with us, but screaming and yelling at us as if we were some kind of thieves of burgers and giros, was not apprecaited. Later when i went to pay inside, i heard the stuff arguing to each other, they were not bothered at all that i was there hearing it all, they just continued arguing. Such a shame for a beautiful and welcoming Greece to have a place like this. And i didnāt mention the poor quality and overpriced meals, because they...
