My recent visit to Alexandros in Kos Town (near Fish Street) was a delightful dive into Greek cuisine with a few minor hiccups. The atmosphere is that of a charming, traditional taverna, with a warm and welcoming vibe. The service was a highlight—our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home, chatting with a genuine smile. The food came out promptly, with the main courses arriving just as we finished our starters, keeping the meal flowing smoothly. I started with the calamari, which was fresh and perfectly fried, though it was missing a dipping sauce, a small touch that would’ve elevated the dish. The mains were hearty and flavorful—generous portions of classic Greek dishes like grilled shrimp with garlic sauce, all reasonably priced. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, but it arrived without a cooler, and it started to warm up. The owner quickly noticed and rectified this, which was a nice touch and showed their care for the dining experience. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were fair (our meal for three, including wine, came in under €80). A few small oversights, like the missing dipping sauce and wine cooler, kept it from being perfect, but I’d still rate Alexandros 4 out of 5 stars for its authentic food...
Read moreprobably the worst kleftiko I've ever had cooked in white stock, rolling about the plate in grease. Its all fur coat the pulling power is it overlooks the sea and that's it. When we complained they sent out the tout who had psyched herself up for an argument and without any discussion proceeded in telling us that it was usual to cook Grecian and Italian food in a poor way and begun to haggle over the price stating frozen prawns imported from China (with the added taste of carbon monoxide) was usual in my friends tagliatelle. I made her aware I was not prepared to argue over a sub standard meal and 25 euros. It was not taken into account I have been a successful restaurateur when mentioned. She went on to state she had spent 18 years in Greece (incidentally not cooking, serving but standing on doors) and informing us of her extensive knowledge of food which was obviously limited. My friend had tagliatelle in a bowl of greasy slop with frozen prawns and was latterly in some discomfort My advice is try the Taverna's around the back far superior in standards of authentic Greek food. Walk past Alexander's and experience good Greek food and hospitality. Thomas Cook ought to hang their heads in shame...
Read moreThe only word to describe this place is horrible. First of it was nice until a waiter came over and chucked some menus at us like were dirt. I forgave it as they were busy. Until I ordered a burger and after 45 minutes this guy came over like he’s the godfather. And said “we have no burgers order something else.” Awful. Didn’t even apologise or talk to me nicely at this point we should’ve just left. In the end I ordered a steak well done. After a long wait, again the bring me steak over and my families food over my families food was bad and mediocre but my food was worse than that. They brought me the steak raw. I know chefs don’t like cooking well done steak and usually cook it medium well or something but raw crossed the line of “okay” by a long while. Then after we asked for it well done again they gave it to me burnt to a crisp. After all that you would expect a discount or just to have the food free. But no this guy who I think was the owner slammed his hands down and threw a fit. After that we just paid and left the place quickly. If I could rate 0 stars I would this place ruined me and my families night and they will ruin your night too.
Gordon Ramsey can’t even sort this place out. 1 star would...
