Kastro Cretan Cuisine — Restaurant in Municipality of Milopotamos

Just had my last meal at this place and i am lost for words on how to describe my experience!! In all my years I have never ever come across a place with such fresh, tasty and cooked to perfection food! If I could give 100 stars I would! From the food, to the staff to the service everything is amazing!! Family run and the father and his two boys are the most welcoming and polite people I have ever known! You will be sure to feel welcomed and enjoy the best cuisine on the island! There almond raki which they give you at the end of the meal is to die for and the fruit is on the house but it’s the most amazing raki and fruit you will ever try!! Tonight he eldest son and there waitress Panayiota and there waiter Marco gave us a top class service once more!! Just to be clear all the staff give a top class service too!! These people are just so friendly and cannot do enough for you!! Really sad to be going home cause I could dine here every single night of my life!! Being in Crete for 2 weeks I visited a dozen or so tavernas and bars. But my best memories are of the dinners in Kastro! My family and I tried almost the whole menu (starters, main courses, desserts - pictures below, unfortunately they do not reflect what we had on the table, I paid more attention to savouring and talking) during several visits - everything was very good, fresh, perfectly seasoned, you could feel the good ingredients. Traditional Cretan cuisine, but in an above average way. Service professional, responsive and very, very friendly (even if very busy). Giorgos and the whole family (sorry I can't remember the other names, it's because of the raki, about which below) Thank you for a beautiful story of continuing family traditions! Terrace very spacious, full of plants, clean everywhere. And strong 5 stars for the careful selection of wines (including excellent sparkling!), I was captured by the waiter's ability to professionally describe the wine according to what was later in the nose and mouth. I have not drunk better wines anywhere in Crete. Last but not least, they serve an excellent raki, almond flavoured. It's not as strong as traditional raki, so it's also very good for people who don't like strong alcohol. When I am in Crete, I will definitely return there. I would first say that we drove around whole Creta in last days and ate all possible places, from cheap eats to fancy restaurants and this has least value for money. It could be our fault, because we came there looking for meze, and they had a lot to choose from, but we haven't ordered any of the main courses. I told the waiters our plan and she didn't say anything. All dishes were so small that we continued to order more. And I just want to say that it was really expensive dishes so I was super disappointed when I saw how small dishes were delivered to our table. At the end we spent a lot of money on lunch that wasn't really fulfilling. Later on, we could see huge plates for other guests, filled with meets and vegetables. So yeah, it was our fault. I just wish waiter said something when I said that I want to do meze style lunch. Now about food we ordered, we weren't impressed.
