This was truly a terrible experience. I asked the staff for a can of beer. However, the staff brought me a bottle of beer that had already been opened. I explained to him that I was about to go diving, so I couldn’t drink alcohol at the moment. I ordered the beer because I wanted to take it away and drink it later in the evening. At that point, he told me they didn’t have any canned beer. So I asked if he could replace it with an unopened one. But then he said, “You can’t take the bottle either. You can only drink it here.”
I found this really strange. The bottle was clearly the original packaging from the beer manufacturer; it wasn’t some kind of special in-house container. So why insist on keeping it? After failing to get through to him, he just left the beer on the counter. I felt that maybe he didn’t fully understand what I was trying to say.
After a while, he came back and asked again what I wanted. I repeated what I had said earlier and explained in more detail. I thought he would give me an unopened bottle this time, but after listening, he did nothing. Just said “OK” and walked away. I was completely baffled and had no idea what he was thinking.
When it came time to pay, I didn’t want to pay for the beer since I couldn’t drink it and hadn’t taken a single sip. The beer was left untouched on the counter. But when I said I didn’t want to pay for it, the staff member suddenly became extremely agitated. His gestures and tone became very impatient, and he kept saying, in a forceful tone, that I had made him really angry.
I still tried to stay calm and communicate with him, but he clearly didn’t want to talk anymore, just keeping repeating, “Tap the card, tap the card.” Of course, I refused, and we reached a stalemate. His coworkers, noticing the commotion, came over. He spoke to another staff member in a language I didn’t understand, and that staff member suddenly became furious. He shouted “Tap the card!” and even raised his fist as if he was going to hit me.
Although the other staff held him back, he kept threatening me from the side. Then a female staff member said, “Either you pay, or you go to the police.” The others quickly echoed, “Call the police!” I wasn’t afraid, because I truly believed I had done nothing wrong. I said, “I am okay with that.” Seeing that I wasn’t intimidated, they discussed among themselves and finally decided I could pay for half of the beer.
I didn’t want to escalate things further. After all, being surrounded by four or five people was indeed risky. So I agreed to the proposal. I’d say this was the worst thing that happened to...
