Best food I've had in years. Literally.
I'm tempted not to write a review just to keep the 50/50 Greek Taverna as my own secret personal magical restaurant. However, that would be unfair for them and to you. Their incredible food and atmosphere NEEDS to be seen to be believed, and NEEDS to be seen by more.
COVID TREATMENT: As a group of eight (two families) we were always allowed to sit together at one big table. The 50/50 did not allow this. This surprised me. However, the fact that they were willing to turn us to comply with COVID regulations, showed me that they were no ordinary restaurant. You can really feel safe and at home at the 50/50.
SERVICE: After sitting down, we were brought some delicious Greek started treats with cheese and olives, as well as a delicious appetizing drink - all free of charge. To finish off our entire meal we were given free chocolate icecream and cake. Again, absolutely delicious and free. If by any chance you order the 'wrong' meal, these freebies will be more than enough to have you satisfied and amazed with their cooking skills! The waiters checked in on us regularly and really helped create an incredible, friendly, happy atmosphere. It seemed everyone at the restaurant was happy. There's no other word to describe it. Happy!
ATMOSPHERE: Magically happy. You really have to experience it to believe it!
FOOD: Absolutely incredible. We're still kicking ourselves cause we only stumbled on the 50/50 on our last day in Corfu. Without a doubt, the best food we had in our 8 days in Corfu. In fact, the 50/50 had the best food I've had in years. I'll be going back to Sidari next year specifically for the 50/50. Highly highly recommend.
PRICE: For eight people with drinks we ended up spending around âŹ120. Personally I would have been more than happy paying that amount for my own meal. Needless to say we left a huge tip!
FINAL NOTE: You absolutely should NOT miss this incredible restaurant. You will forever regret it if you don't try at least the delicious Saganaki starter.
Hope you have as great a time as we all did at the 50/50 Greek Taverna, and hope you have a delightful holiday in...
Read moreI am from the UK and hold a GBP bank account. After finishing my meal, the waiter proceeded to select GBP on the payment terminal without offering me the choice to pay in euros, which is the local currency. Most tourists, including myself, typically organize zero-commission bank accounts specifically for paying in the local currency to avoid unnecessary fees. However, because I wasnât given the option, I was charged a 3.5% commission fee on top of an already unfavorable exchange rate, making the total cost of my meal significantly higher than it should have been. Had the waiter simply selected euros, this extra cost would have been avoided entirely, without any loss or impact on the restaurant.
When I politely raised this issue with the waiter and explained that I had been charged more than necessary due to his actions, he immediately became defensive and aggressive, raising his voice at me. Despite my calm approach, he insisted that his bank didnât allow him to choose euros on the payment machine. This claim, however, was entirely untrue, as I had clearly seen him manually select GBP on the terminal rather than euros. It was a deliberate action, and I felt that I had been misled.
To make matters worse, he also added a 10% service charge to the bill without consulting me, further increasing the cost of the meal. While I understand that service charges can be common, this was forced upon me in a situation where the service was less than satisfactory, particularly given the aggressive behavior of the waiter.
I generally prefer writing positive reviews, so itâs unfortunate that I feel compelled to share this negative experience. My advice to other travelers would be to visit Cavalieri, the restaurant next door. The staff there are much more professional, polite, andâmost importantlyâtransparent and honest with their customers. Youâll be treated with respect and not subjected to sneaky tactics or...
Read moreWow well where do I start. I had heard so many great things about this place that I had to pay it a visit with my wife. Greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. I believe it is a family run business which shows in the food and kindness from the staff. We ordered drinks first and we where given an anti pasti on our table to wet our appetite whilst browsing the menu. The menu has a good piece written inside about the family and also how the restaurant gained its name. To find out for yourself you will have to pay them a visit. Our waiter was excellent, friendly, good sense of humour and spoke very good English. I am a big fan of Carbonara and I am very particular about my Italian food. This was the Greek spaghetti carbonara! Absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say it was one of the best carbonaras I have ever had. Pasta cooked to perfection, seasoned nicely with a hint of garlic & a generous size bowl with parmesan to sprinkle. I could not fault it. Big big compliments to the chef!! We asked for the bill and they brought us over 2 fantastic cakes to eat and 2 shots on the house. The prices are very reasonable! Thanks to 50/50 we wil return....
