Good traditional food in modern setting. Recommendation for plates of mixed grill, if you have some appetisers even the "small" one is enough for 3-4 persons.
Edit, 2023: Oh how the mighty has fallen. As the entire Microlimano was, regrettably, forced to give up its enchanting character in order to become a dull set of cookie-cutter, fast-food-like set of shops, for no logical reason (yet the single real problem of insufficient parking wasn't tackled at all) - so did one of the best politiko-style restaurants in Athens.
The elaborate concept which included the enclosed terrace interior, atmosphere, the specific serving style, overall classy service, and excellent cousine, sadly turned into a characterless, mediocre place like thousands of others, with nothing to set it apart.
Compared to what this place used to be for so many years, it feels almost like an insult and it's so sad. Clearly the owners (new?) decided that a basic, low-effort tourist trap is more lucrative than catering to locals and seasoned visitors. (The attitude is also reflected in a new, greedy menu, where no options for 2 persons are available anymore - instead they push double-priced versions for 4 or more, saying "you can pack the rest for home." Cheap move.) Once amazing food is now also mediocre, no distinctive taste, dull. Service went two levels down with grumpy staff that communicates on a fast-food-joint level and just throws plates to the table. From a favorite place to no-reason-to-go-there in one move - well done...
Read moreVosporos is massive, both inside and out. Nestled in the heart of Mikrolimano, it buzzes with energy. The decor is nice enough, and the sea view is a pleasant bonus. The endless parade of tables separated by glass panels adds a surreal touch, making it feel like dining in a never-ending banquet hall. Big tables, big groups, and big noise. It's perfect for birthdays, business dinners, or any gathering where noise isn’t an issue. This place is loud and lively, exactly what you'd expect from such a setting. Inside has more character, but size dominates here also.
Service is surprisingly efficient given the chaos. Food arrives quickly, which is a blessing in such a busy spot. The menu focuses on meat, rooted in Politiki cuisine. Kebabs and gyros are all good. However, the lahmacun is a miss, but the bougatsa is delightful. Portions are huge, justifying the slightly high prices.
The staff is plentiful and polite, though clearing the table might take a nudge. Clean bathrooms are a plus, especially considering the size of the place.
In a nutshell: Vosporos is a fair option for hearty meat dishes in a bustling, vibrant setting. Bring your loudest friends and prepare for a lively...
Read moreIt was the worst dinner in a restaurant ever.. It started very well, we got water and yogurt cream with Greek bread, a good start. Let's add that it was about 35 minutes before they took our order and another 35 before they brought out the food for the OTHERS (4 of us had dinner). The waiter said 1 minute and mine will come. 10-15 minutes pass, nothing. I indicated that I had been waiting a long time for my dinner, he came back saying "he thought there were no more plates for the table". Then why did he say before that he would bring my food in 1 minute?? Another 10 minutes passed at least before my food arrived... 2 of the others had already finished their food, the 3rd was chewing the last bites before I even got the ordered food to the table... I'd rather not even mention that after a request for the bill again 15 minutes passed before the lady showed up with the bill, what we asked with every food on it (to later seperate the bill) and she only gave the small paper from the PDQ (card) machine... The atmosphere is pleasant, the food is delicious, but the service is scandalously...
