Thalassographia — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

Maybe we just were unlucky, but it was just bad. When we came there were a lot of tables - we were said they reserved and after people just came and seat (of course they had a better view). After we sat, we order water and a waitress just put the bottle on the table and didn’t even try to open it. We order some wine and cheese plates - and we saw other people who came after us taking their orders of meat/fish which I suppose must be cooked longer than a cold plate. In my glass of wine was something like ash, to my friend a waitress bring a closed bottle of Prosecco and when we asked to open it, she asked ”you need us to open it? “The waitress cannot open it,she call another waiter and they cannot opened it together - I wonder how we supposed to open it by ourselves. Breadsticks on plate were just broken - not even chopped. In the end we asked for a bill - I saw that they bring to everyone deserts/compliment from restaurant - we have nothing. We were so in shock we would not eat that anyways but as a gesture it was very unkind. I hear a lot of good words for this place and it was totally disappointing. Maybe we just came...

The restaurant attracted us with its beautiful view of the fortress and the sea, and when we sat down we were greeted so warmly by the staff, who were extremely kind and friendly. The food is very tasty, the prices are not high, the setting is wonderful, their cocktails are also a must try. We recommend enjoying the view at sunset. The whole setting and the wonderful people of the restaurant made us come back on the following evenings of our stay in Rethymno. Not our favourite, but not the worst. Stifado was very tender but lacked flavour. Gemista was quite simple for the price. Calamari was great but skip the grilled veggies, they weren’t worth the money. Service was initially amazing but really slowed as the evening went on. However, they were very friendly and helpful. We sat for quite a while with not even water in our cups after eating. I wouldn’t go here for the main courses but maybe a couple appetizers and a drinks.
