TAVERNA PLATIA — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

We came here after a nice walk in the old town. The restaurant's outdoor seating was definitely a big plus and something that made us decide to eat here. The waiter was friendly but a bit absent-minded. We ordered, among other things, a salad that we wanted to have with the main courses. It was the waiter who asked if we wanted it as an appetizer or with the main course. Even though we chose the main course, we got it with the appetizers. Not a big problem, but the rest of the dinner was marked by some issues.

When we finally got the main courses, I noticed that those of us who ordered shrimp received only three shrimp with relatively poorly fried fries. But the worst part was the fish sticks. These were supposed to be fresh but were frankly awful. Frozen fish sticks would have been better. Inside the microwaved stick hid a fish paste without flavor. This was pointed out later. Apart from the rather mediocre food, it was very disorganized, and we had to wait 20 minutes to pay after we asked for the bill. We had to get up and go to the table where the waiters stood to be able to pay. The recipe was in greece which made us really suspicious.

It feels like they are only after money and customers. Taking time to focus on food and quality is something they didn't do here. We were very disappointed after our visit here. The rule of not going into restaurants that try to lure you in from the street really holds...

We were looking for a nice seafood restaurant and the hostess convinced us to stay as we were walking by telling us that many locals trust this restaurant. We ordered wine, a dakos salad and stuffed calamari. Honestly, I hold Cretan cuisine to such high regard, it is a shame that this restaurant serves such low quality food.

The calamari felt like you were chewing a gum and was completely tasteless. I vaguely remember having such badly cooked calamari beore. The dakos salad was so watery, it almost felt like you were eating water with bread crumbles in it. The wine was ok. I hope someone who's managing the place can see the bad reviews, because it is really a shame to have a restaurant in such key location serving so bad food. Very welcome and non scammed restaurants. The service was good and all staff are friendly, they might be very busy but it's not a big deal, I kinda understand as they need to take care customer orders and carrying food across the road to the restaurant.

We ordered mix seafood from special menu's number 3 and number 1. Fish was fresh, and good size portions were not too big or too small, but I'm sure you will be full.

Special menu's list is recommended as it comes with starter bread and fresh Greek salad, and your chosen main dish, also wine, which is all included in the price( mine was 22€)

After the main dish, they served fresh fruits 2 shots of alcohol drinks as complimentary.
