Zorba's Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Sitia

This is our 9th time in Sitia. The food is fine, as is the food in most of the places along this strip...it's all good, but also can be very similar. There are other places that may be more interesting. It was not our first choice for our meal and we almost did not go in because of the pushy, insistent manner of the person soliciting customers. Otherwise there would be more stars. This criticism may be levelled at various of the other places, and I suspect maybe down to the owners. Rather than relying on their staff to haul in customers, they might consider differentiating themselves from their competitors by their food offerings, ambience or other creative means. The other thing to say about a lot of restaurants aimed at tourists is that the portion sizes are all large, and we see other diners challenged by the quantities. Our requests to box up and take away what we can't eat have not been a problem. Otherwise we tend to skip the starters and salads, choose 2 different mains, and swap half each. Or just one main, 2 plates, and just 1 or 2 starters. Or a salad and a couple of starters. Usually enough, less waste, less cost. ...

We had the joy of dining at Taverna Zorbas in Sitia for five nights in a row, and every evening felt like coming home. This is not just a restaurant, it’s a place of heart, where the sea whispers at your side and the flavors of Crete are brought to life with love and care.
