After a rather dreary and chilly day with plans for the beach falling through, my husband and I decided to indulge in a delightful seafood dinner, which surprisingly, Sparta does quite well. We started with a village Greek salad—standard fare but always a refreshing beginning. The calamari followed, surpassing typical stateside offerings, but the true star of the evening was the grilled octopus. It was exquisite, not at all gummy, with a perfect charred flavor that was both aromatic and divine. We paired our meal with Ouzo and wine, essentials for a seafood feast, especially with octopus.
To top off our dining experience, we were presented with a unique dessert—a candied, syruped orange rind that struck the perfect balance between sweet and tart. Leaving the restaurant, we were not only full but genuinely happy, playfully rubbing our bellies as we skipped out into the evening. The chef is the owner and you know that is a massive difference. He gives a nice little talk about the ingredients and he's very of his 100% Greek shop, from the chairs to the pictures on the walls.
Sparta offers you only the Leonidas history but and amazing and cozy place where you can enjoy food in a traditional way, outside of the mainstream food restaurants.
Music, casual people passing by a pretty view of the street reminds you of the hospitality of the Mediterranean. Come, you'll never forget this place.
