âââââ âBetter Than Finding Enlightenment in a Cold Beerâ
So Iâm racing to catch my ferry like a good American tourist whoâs 50/50 on whether the boat leaves at 12:00 or 12:07, when I stumble across this spotâand BAM! My ferry panic disappears faster than a Chinese tour group when the guide waves the flag.
Out walks this unreasonably handsome Greek guy (seriously, Zeus called and wants his jawline back), and he leads me to a âReservedâ table that he claims heâs been saving just for me for many days. Indians will understand: this is the kind of line your auntie uses when sheâs trying to arrange your marriageâbut with feta.
He pours me the coldest beer in all of Greece. No joke. Iâve had beers in Santorini, Athens, and Mykonos. This one? So cold it might be from a Himalayan glacier blessed by a monk. I almost bowed before it like my Chinese friends do at a shrine.
And this guy⊠heâs keeping an eye on my ferry while running the whole patio, making lattes, pouring beers, and tactfully blocking people from using the bathroom without ordering something. Americansâyou know that free spirit in all of us that says âbathroom means freedomâ? Yeah, no. Not here. This legend has standards.
In short: every human beingâregardless of religion, nationality, or bathroom habitsâshould buy a beer from this man before using his facilities and boarding a ferry. Youâll leave refreshed, respected, and...

If you ever find yourself at the Santorini port, drowning in a sea of sweaty tourists, honking taxis, and general ferry-terminal chaos, Spartakos is the magical oasis you didnât know you needed.
We showed up 90 minutes early for our ferry like good little planners, only to be swallowed by a whirlwind of backpacks, blaring horns, and people pointing in every direction except the right one. Enter Spartakos â a heroic little cafĂ©-bar that sits like a calm, caffeinated guardian angel in the center of the madness.
Within minutes, we were whisked to a front-row table for four like VIPs (or at least well-organized chaos survivors). We ordered Prosecco, cold beer, a milkshake, and a frappe with ice cream â because ferry terminal calories donât count. Drinks? Ice cold. Vibes? Immaculate. Staff? Legends.
The guy running the place not only made sure our drinks were full, but personally tracked the time for us and gave us the friendly nod when it was time to join the boarding stampede. We were hydrated, caffeinated, sugar-buzzed, and hilariously entertained by the parade of humanity swirling around us.
In short: if James Bond ran a bar at a Greek ferry port, it would be Spartakos. 10/10 would survive Santorini port again with...
Read moreAfter a 4.5 hour ferry ride, we were hungry and thirsty. Spartakos was extremely busy and we weren't sure there would be room for us. Giannis greeted us and took us to a table. The tables are very close to each other to maximize their visitation capacity. Even so, Giannis carried our bags to the table and got us situated.
Our server, Andreas, never stopped moving because he was so busy, and was still very attentive. He got our order after a few minutes and the drinks and food came quickly, especially considering how busy they were at the time. Literally hundreds of people had just gotten off a couple ferries, so the kitchen must have been extremely busy.
My friend had the most amazing Greek salad. All the vegetables were fresh and delicious, and the dressing and feta cheese were impeccable! I had the chicken dinner with fries, tomatoes/cucumbers and fresh tzatziki. It was some of the best I've ever had!
On top of the amazing service, (which was the best we had in the first week we were in Greece) both Giannus and Andreas went out of their way to help us arrange a rental car that was reliable and reasonably priced.
Coming from a service industry background, I appreciated their efforts. If/when I return to Santorini, I will definitely...
