Found this place randomly looking at the sign on the main road in the port, it's a recently opened business and it wasn't listed on Google Maps, I was looking there at other cafes and restaurants at the port and they didn't look very good so we decided to give this one a try. After the good food and service from Elisabeth (she was very kind and she gave me details about what some plates included), I decided to help them by adding their restaurant on Google Maps. The place is not directly in the main road so you won't easily notice it, to find it, you just have to turn and go 20 seconds uphill on the little street next to the place where they sell shuttle buses tickets (you'll know because these guys are constantly shouting, by the way don't let them fool you, they are shouting like kids trying to get people to buy their 30€+ tickets when there are public buses to the central Thira for around 2€).
Anyways, Athinios Restaurant is a family business run by a couple of nice ladies and you are served by the youngest one who looks to be the daughter, Elisabeth, who is really nice. The food is good, they have a coal grill where they cook meat for gyros and other meat, they also have several other options such as salads, fish or local food such as mussaka or fava. We tried the roasted pork which was tasty, slightly dry as we popped up there in the middle of lunch and dinner (4:30 pm), but was still good, their tzatziki is good enough as well as their pita bread. They also have decent selection of local beers like Mythos and Alfa. Prices are good considering the other options at the port. They also have a terrace with tables to eat outside where you can enjoy the breeze without looking at the crowds in the port. Overall, I recommend it and I hope everything goes well for them. I will come back on my next time...
Read morewe were very surprised with this place, obviously expected it to be like the other places around the port (tourist scams and awful food for expensive prices) but given its high rating we decided to try it We got a beer and ice tea for normal prices like everywhere else which was surprising since the places around it were selling water for that prices we got chicken gyros, the chicken was juicy, and perfectly cooked with amazing flavors, and had some grilled aftertaste flavor pita bread tasted fresh, fries were good quality fries service was amazing, very cute family restaurant ambiance was cute and authentic even though it was very crowded as it would...
Read moreI think the people that rated the food at this place 5 stars haven't traveled beyond Santorini. For this price (€15) the pork gyros was the most expensive and absolute worst we've eaten in entire Greece. The pork "meat" was mostly fat and it was not fresh either; dried out and flavourless. The greek salad is only tasty if you use the best fresh ingredients and olive oil, which unfortunately was also not the case. I can only imagine what the other restaurants in the harbour taste like, given the terrible reviews, but if you're smart you avoid eating in the port all together. It's a tourist trap and an absolute waste...
