Yesterday, we travelled from Santorini to Naxos. Our transfer picked us up very early and our ferry wasnât until noon! We were worried we were going to get stuck in the heat all morning & carrying around our luggage for hours. When we arrived at the port, as first time travelers to Greece, we checked out some Google Reviews on where to eat. We were pleased with what we saw online and decided on Makis Cafe â we couldnât have chosen a better spot to start our day! The owner welcomed us into his shop, gave up a table in the shade and we had a great âAmerican styleâ breakfast, fruit salad & smoothie. Our bellies were full and we began to anticipate our next move â we didnât want to overstay our welcome. The owner asked each of his guests which ferry they were on and kept them updated throughout their meal on the status of their boat. When he found out we were on the 12:00 ferry, he graciously invited up to stay and relax AND moved us to an alternate table in the shade knowing the sun would hit ours in the next hour or so! We stayed, chatted, relaxed, continued purchasing drinks and bought snacks for the ferry from his convenience stand just inside Gate 4. The owner gave us updates on our boat and reminded us and other guests that the ferries are assigned seats. There is no need to join the extremely long line and stand in the hot sun. He assured us, and his other guests that he would keep us up to date on the ferry and tell us when a good time to leave was. He is a man of his word and told us exactly when the boat arrived & unloaded, and when a good time to leave was. This saved us from standing in the heat and carrying around luggage for no reason. We got onto our boat with plenty of time and had a great transfer between islands. We are so grateful for Makis Cafeâs knowledge, kindness & generosity. We will be sure to return on our next visit & share our experience with others. Thank...
Read moreThe best place to wait for your ferry in Santorini. It's right beside the ferry terminal. The manager is very nice and was an expert on the ferry delays. He knew the strategy of when to board the ferry so you weren't swept up in the crowd and so your luggage would be on the perimeter of the bag area so it would be faster to get it when you arrived at your destination. Every time we got up to leave, he told us to wait a little longer. And didn't make us feel like we needed to order additional items. We had delicious fruit smoothies and a banana spilt. The free WIFI was strong and if you bought anything you could use the ferry terminal bathrooms for free. I was surprised more people chose to stand in the hot sun for over an hour instead of sitting down...
Read moreIf you find yourself waiting at the port, this is the place to do so. There are tons of places and they all yell at you to come sit, we are happy we chose here. Happens to be right beside doors for ferry boarding and the waiter was super helpful. Told us about the ferry delay, told us when to go line up, we could use the bathroom inside without paying the attendants. Everyone stood in the sun while we had a table and could simply enjoy ourselves until boarding. We only had coffees and cheese pies but they were lovely. Don't be swayed by the place next to it, they were constantly "upselling alcohol to everyone, including Moet champagne" the waiter there was discouraging coffee orders, it was all about alcohol sales at...
