Sadly, this is yet another typical Greek island restaurant.
Unbeatable location, literally by the beach, including a small pier where you can eat surrounded by the sea. The stuff of expensive cars advertising. Food is on the expensive side, but I would have paid a little extra for the location.
But when we walked in, the waiter tried to sit us in a sun baked table. We told him we wanted a shaded table but he kept offering that one. Eventually we picked one in the shade and he begrudgingly accepted it. I thought he was just unattentive, but maybe he was trying to save the good tables for the regular customers. Or both.
Anyway, we ordered a grand total of four items; an octopus appetizer, two orders of grilled swordfish and a bottle of water. Not quite an overwhelming order. And the place was pretty empty.
A while after we received a bowl of bread with two slices of feta cheese. We assumed the latter were standard with the bread and ate them.
After a looong wait, the swordfish arrived. When I asked about the octopus, the waiter looked completely dumbfounded. Then he offered to bring it... to which we replied no, thanks, we wanted it as an appetizer to pass the wait. But he offered no apologies.
By the way, the swordfish was thin and very overgrilled. (Bone dry).
When the bill arrived there was an item we didn't expect. Sure enough it was the feta cheese... how can you hear "feta" in place of "octopus" is beyond me. And why would you charge for an item brought in error?
Sorry people, but a great location a great restaurant doesn't make. The food and attention has...
Read moreThe Dolphins restaurant on the Red Beach in Santorini is a hidden gem, and their fresh seafood pasta is an absolute must-try for food lovers visiting the island. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Santorini’s iconic red cliffs and turquoise waters, this charming seaside spot delivers a dining experience that’s as unforgettable as the scenery.
The seafood pasta is a masterpiece of simplicity and flavor. Perfectly cooked al dente pasta is tossed with a generous mix of the freshest local seafood—plump mussels, tender shrimp, and delicate calamari—all bathed in a light, garlicky tomato sauce with just a hint of white wine. The flavors are perfectly balanced, allowing the natural sweetness of the seafood to shine through.
The dish is elevated further by the addition of fresh herbs and a sprinkle of grated cheese, bringing depth and brightness to every bite. Paired with a crisp glass of local white wine, it’s the epitome of Mediterranean dining.
With its unbeatable location, friendly service, and food that celebrates the best of the Aegean, The Dolphins is a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic, flavorful seafood dishes while soaking in the beauty of...
Read moreIt is nicely located taverna, where we had a nice couple of lunches. Its down a flight of stairs, but it was a bit hard to locate because it is out of sight - look out for entrance (pic shared) on the left while walking down from bus stop towards red beach. This was the only place around that was open, other places around seemed closed probably due to winter time. Its right next to the water so it has a great view of the Aegean sea. We seated indoors due to the cold but I think in summers they setup outside too since there was a lot of space. The menu was majorly Greek cuisine. We ordered Santorini salad which was fresh but okay and tomato balls which was good. The service was a bit slow though, it seemed they were open but short-staffed probably intentionally as they don't expect many...
