We stayed at the Anaxos Hotel in July 2023. We arrived mid afternoon and firstly got a warm welcome from a member of the housekeeping team who pointed us in the direction of the reception.
At reception we met Frank and then Tony who both gave us a warm welcome. Frank was responsible for checking us in and gave us in room 7. which overlooked the new pool area. We asked for the air con, which was 8euro a night, and well worth it in the July heat of Lesvos
The hotel has a pool with very comfy sunbeds, a restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. a bar area and approx 35 rooms.
Our room was like other family run greek hotels. It was basic but clean. We had a bathroom with a shower,a fridge and small kitchen area with a 2 ring hob, kettle and a sink. there is a selection of cutlery, utensils, crockery and pans.
We had a fairly large bedroom area, with the usual 2 single beds pushed together. There was also another single bed in our room. A TV, dressing table and wardrobe.
The room was very clean, although the bathroom would benefit from being updated.
We were able to get wifi in our room, although it was a little slow in the early evening (when most people went back to their rooms to get ready for the evening.) The rest of the day it was good enough to check emails, social media etc.
Even from our ground floor room we could see the sea.
We were on a Bed & Breakfast basis, breakfast was served in the restaurant and it was table service. There were a lot of options, such as bacon and eggs, greek breakfast, cornflakes, greek yoghurt with nuts, there seemed to be something to suit everyone.
Tony worked hard to ensure all the food whether it be breakfast, lunch or diner was served and tasted to a very high standard.
We ate diner in the restaurant 3 times during our 11 night stay and the food was fantastic. It was of a very high quality and taste and was very reasonably priced, and the portions were huge.
The pool area was very peaceful and a great area to relax and have a swim.
The bar which is Franks domain serves drinks throughout the day and night. In the evening, Frank is joined by his wife Anna and also Feti. They are very hospitable and nothing is too much trouble. Tony and Franks parents also work hard to ensure guests have a great stay.
The hotel is a minutes walk from the sea front, bars and tavernas. There are also 2 supermarkets within a minutes walk.
As with most hotels in Anaxos the transfer couch cannot reach the hotel and will drop/pick up a short distance away. We took a private transfer taxi and were dropped off outside the hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Anaxos hotel. There were many guests were return year after year, everyone was friendly and we made some great memories. you could not ask for a better place to stay in Lesvos,not...

Read moreAs we near the end of our two week stay here, I can honestly say that this has been the nicest and friendliest place we have ever stayed in our 40 years of visiting the Greek islands. Another reviewer stated that they never visit a place twice but are drawn to coming back to Lesvos and the Anaxos Hotel. We would mirror that sentiment. There is something about the place, from the excellent food (we came half board) to the daily check in from staff as to whether we had, had a good day, to the challenge of finding who had been returning here the longest. We met a fair few who had been coming for more than 30 years. Nice relaxed pool area, not much towel claiming of beds. We never bothered and always got a bed (don't buy into the towel malarkey, wherever we go). Bar open til early hours if required, great choice of food for lunch and for dinner. Prices very reasonable. We stuck to Greek food and Greek drinks, because when in Rome... All prepared to an excellent standard and better than the 5* rated local restaurants we tried. Rooms are Greek basic type, but cleaned to a very high standard. Good size also. We had an interconnecting room as our 21 year old daughter came also. This was canny. We had room 14, partial sea view/mountain view. Sun early morning, then nice and shady so very usable in the afternoon. Towels changed twice a week which is perhaps a little too infrequent, but didn't affect us at all. Rooms cleaned daily. Frank and Tony are excellent hosts, that perfect blend of Greek and Australian humour and wit. Feti the waiter was great, also as was Frank's wife. All worked very hard so we didn't have to. We have a day and a half left and writing this review has been the hardest work I've done in two glorious weeks.🤣 Anaxos is quiet of a night, but even our party girl of 21 enjoyed the atmosphere and the very reasonable cocktails. Everyone in the bars and restaurants were lovely and prices very reasonable. I'm almost reluctant to post this as it may mean a hotel which is always full and has no room for us to come back.
