The purpose of this statement is to inform you about the working conditions at the establishment in question, which employs both adults and young workers. The situation there is unacceptable and, in my opinion, requires immediate attention. The working conditions are poor to extremely bad. Employees are treated with disrespect and, in some cases, worse than slaves. Throughout the entire summer, the kitchen staff did not even have access to drinking water. They were forced to buy water and coffee from a nearby supermarket, paying out of their own pockets every day. Some employees worked from 8:00 a.m. until late at night, often exceeding 14 hours per day, without breaks or refreshments. The staff working at the grill and fryers endured temperatures exceeding 50°C. When they asked for water, the excuse given was that the bar was “too busy” to fill a bottle. As a result, workers collected leftover water from customers’ tables just to stay hydrated. Furthermore, when mistakes occurred, the owner insulted and threatened the employees, saying that any errors would be deducted from their wages. When I personally fell ill with acute gastroenteritis (officially diagnosed by a doctor), the owner — after a verbal conversation with the doctor, who is supposedly her acquaintance — agreed to give me three days of sick leave. However, this leave was never paid. My condition worsened, and my weight dropped from 63 kg to 56.5 kg, making it impossible for me to continue working. When I asked to resign, the owner delayed the paperwork and withheld my payment, claiming that I was lying. During this period, I had to pay for my own food for more than a week. Eventually, the owner refused to provide an official termination letter, which resulted in me losing my right to unemployment benefits. Due to my health condition, I was forced to sign a resignation. I am not sharing this information out of spite or for defamation purposes. This was my second year working at this establishment, and I can confirm that the same problems existed last year — in fact, the conditions were even worse then. My sister, who also worked there, paid at least €10 per day out of her own pocket for a taxi to get to work. The owner never once offered to cover...
Read moreI visited Fiskardo yesterday with my girlfriend, and we stopped at Irida restaurant for a quick bite after hopping off a boat.
A waiter came to take our order. We started with drinks—two frappes. As soon as he noted our order, he stayed beside us to take orders from the next table. During that time, I changed my mind and decided to have a draft beer instead of a frappe. Once he finished with the other table, I got his attention and let him know I’d like to change one of the frappes to a beer, and we proceeded with the rest of our food order.
He walked off looking clearly irritated, which I found unprofessional and unnecessary. About 10 minutes later, a different waiter brought us two frappes. I explained that I had only ordered one frappe and a beer. He went to speak with the original waiter, who then returned to our table visibly annoyed.
He spoke to me in a very rude and dismissive manner, claiming that I never asked to replace the frappe. I had made sure to speak clearly and understandably, especially because I knew English might not be his first language. Despite that, he arrogantly responded, “You should have said you want a beer instead.” Then he took both frappes and walked away without another word.
To be fair, the food and drinks we eventually received were good. However, the poor attitude of the particular waiter—the one wearing the golden Ray Ban sunglasses—managed to ruin the entire experience for us.
Good food is important, but basic courtesy and professionalism matter just as much. Unfortunately, Irida restaurant fell...
Read moreI have been eating at Irida's restaurant for 23 years and never once been disappointed! Not only is the restaurants location utterly idyllic, calming, enjoyable, and motivating. The menu is widespread with a range of choice for any appetite, and offering toward any dietary requirement - gluten free, vegan, etc. The kitchen is clean (I have been inside) and the bread served is homemade by charming Eleni (the owner!!). This goes hand-in-hand with other homemade recipes and family dishes the best part of all of it - is that the produce is as authentic as it gets from a local village boy who farms the rice fresh from the mountains of the island alongside the herbs and vegetables. Mmmm!! The fish is fresh from the morning and the animals are all well nurtured before they become food. The service is great (allow the understanding that sometimes it may be slow when it is busy) but the staff are fully compensating, they care very much, and enjoy your enjoyment. Which is really nice! Irida's is as authentic as the word gets! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone! But forewarning you will...
