We come to Fiskardo every year and decided to try out Nicolas Taverna as we have never tried it before. We had packed a moussaka the night before for the kids and decided it was a nice place to sit and enjoy the views.
Here’s a more moderate review given the first one was probably done at the heat of the moment.
Views: Fantastic. Probably one of the best of the harbour in the evening.
However, food was very average for the price.
Greek salad: Hardly any Feta at all. Just a few small chunks at best.
Moussaka: which we had the packed before was decent but the one served to us on the evening wasn’t upto the mark at all. Probably the most average we have had in our travels in Greece.
Aubergine fries: Oily, chunky and soggy.
Pork Souvlaki was decent but there’s certainly better available.
Lamb chops: at €20 was not what we expected at all. Overcooked and tiny shrivelled pieces of meat.
Giant Beans: Wasn’t bad but definitely not returning just for these.
Service: good and smiley staff l, but the kicker was the bill. We were overcharged by almost 40% and when challenged, server was apologetic immediately and it was obvious that no one checks the bill. For a gang that was hungry and looking forward to the food, we left after our starters and will never be back. A disappointing outing.
To add to the reply, the food was finished because it was not too much (we were scheduled to order mains but didn’t bother) and we do not like wasting food nor did we want to spoil our mood by complaining. The purpose of Google Reviews is to let others know of our experience. The owners are entitled to their own opinions. But patrons need to know that billing issues have happened and it might have been a one-off but there’s no way for us to verify that. We know for a fact that not everyone checks the itemised bill especially when you are on holiday and it’s presented in a different language. Rest is for the management to try and improve. Hope this works better...
Read moreVery rude owner, unfortunately he completely ruined my experience at this place that could have otherwise been great thanks to the nice view and the company of my boyfriend and friends.
He started by telling us to stop talking between some of us (we were 8 people) while others were ordering. "You first order then you talk", he ordered us.
But what really ruined my night was his misogynistic behavior towards me. When he remarked that I was not eating fish, he asked me why. I replied that I was vegetarian, after which he looked at the four guys in the table and asked (literally) "to whom does she belong?" (!!!) Enough to make everyone present extremely uncomfortable. He continued to say "if you were my wife, I'd make you eat it and you would say you like it" (!!!!!).
I didn't even have words to reply, I barely parsed the level of machism this man has. I couldn't enjoy the rest of the dinner and felt great relief when we left.
Better to avoid this place, there are plenty of other beautiful restaurants with nice view within 5'...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend visited Fiskardo for the day in early June, and after a little review reading on TripAdvisor, we decided to go for Nicholas' Taverna. The taverna is a short walk from the harbour, and being at an elevated position, has fantastic views of the harbour area.
Food wise I ordered dolmades to start and sea bream for main from a well crafted handmade menu. My girlfriend chose the moussaka. My meal was excellent and my girlfriend thought the same about hers. On the food alone I would rank this as one of or potentially the best I had during our 2 weeks in Kefalonia. We were staying near to the airport and so only got to come here the once unfortunately.
What made our experience at Nicholas' even better was the welcome and service provided by Alex. He came across as a really pleasant man, and showed great patience as I tried to practice my fledgling Greek (even when I asked for "κόκκινο mullet"!).
Should I find myself in Fiskardo again, my first choice of where to eat would be here without...
