More of a Kebab shop/cafe than restaurant but you'll also be served untold attitude, rudeness and aggression should you complain to the manager Nikko. It's a way over priced kebab shop, but to be fair offers amazing vegetable soup (you really must try it) and great Giros but that's it! Be warned about the main courses and manager - customer service 0/10!
Having been here several times and sampled the Giros (delicious) we decided to eat a main meal of authentic Moussaka (having also tried this dish in several other restaurants) - how disappointing! The dish wasn't presented in a traditional hot bowl (as everywhere else in Greece), was an exceptionally meagre square simply slapped on a cold plate with two tiny round pieces or garlic bread and was tasteless. Oh how the manager erupted in anger halfway through when I asked why didn't the dish resemble the photos on the cafe wall (in a traditional huge bowl) and lacked in taste.
His answer was that Moussaka bowls are illegal in Skiathos (seriously!). He stropped off and begun shouting under his breath.
We decided to ask his wife (also a waitress) a similar question of why the dish doesn't resemble the photo to which we were told 'that's an old photo' and also 'customers where tipping the contents out to cool it down'...seriously...what a load of **, couldn't even get the story straight between them.
I commented to the manager again upon having eaten most of the dish (I was starving) and questioned the cost of the dish, which was greater than even local fine-dine restaurants. I mentioned this was not value for money and of my disappointment and what compensation would the restaurant be prepared to offer (having been here several times before and being a loyal holiday customer)?
No compensation was offered (not even a soft drink) - Oh dear, how the manager hit the roof and began shouting after I refused the full cost of the Moussaka and begun ranting in front of all customers across the restaurant at us and threatened to call the police! Thankfully his wife calmed him down and to resolve the embarrassment of everyone including his wife and all customers who clearly were in shock at the outburst, I paid the full amount. He continued shouting at us as we walked away.
Maybe just a bad day for Nikko? Maybe the regular soiled jumper he wore got to him, maybe the heat?
Having said all this, his son was an excellent waiter - good on you fella and thank you for your genuine...

Already planning my next visit to skiathos purely to visit all at Nikos and eat that yummy foods.
So 1st day in Skiathos, I decided I wanted to try Nikos, I can't explain how good it was from the service to the speed to the food. it was absolutely world-class.
After that I was there everyday.
If you're going to skiathos, Nikos is a must go. It's not a place you want to miss, I promise you.
The environment here is something I haven't seen much of in a restaurant tavern setting before. Tables talking to each other expressing how it's their daily stop...
After trying other restaurants on the island, we kept finding ourselves back at Nikos. For a good reason. All the front of house staff are absolutely top tier. But a special mention to (Danilella,) (red hair and stunning eyelid jewls) you made our holiday something more than just a holiday. You made it a core memory. Something I will always remember Skiathos for.
Sad I'm back in England and not able to come day after day now, I'm craving those yummy mushrooms, cheese balls, and halloumi.
Hats off to the chef also, Mr Niko himself. And wow, the mum makes some yummy deserts, and that tomato jam dip is to die for.
I'll be back. I can assure you of that, and once anyone else goes there, I'm 100% sure you'll have the same experience I received.

Read moreAbsolutely loved Niko's! As a family including two Coeliacs (both highly sensitive to cross-contamination) we were so pleased to discover the specific gluten free menu. It was clear staff understood gf catering needs (eg. At one point, the waiter took the quinoa salad back - without us asking - to check it was gf before serving it) and we suffered no ill effects whatsoever. We ate 6 nights out of seven and had breakfast there too (gf pancakes were amazing, esp the apple flavoured one). Staff were super-friendly, helpful, efficient and brilliant (they memorize the orders?!) A wonderful family-run taverna. Don't be put off by not being able to make a reservation, the wait is only 10 mins or so and it's lovely to soak up the town's atmosphere while you wait. Somehow they manage to keep the flow moving whilst not rushing customers. We were not hurried at all and made to feel very welcome. I would absolutely recommend Niko's 100% to everyone, but especially to Coeliacs wanting to enjoy wonderful food, with a great atmosphere, served by the best staff ever. Thank you to everyone at Niko's. Our children absolutely loved it too :-) This review is written by...
