Varthalamis tavern — Restaurant in Skiathos Municipality

We were welcomed rather rude after waiting for 45 minutes for someone to even look at our table. And no one did. We allowed ourselves to reach to the waiter and ask how much more we needed to wait until we get service at least with water as we see people arriving after us and being served already. The waiter came to our table and kicked us out just because we asked how long more we will be waiting. We observed that for a full restaurant with at least 16 small tables one person was not nearly enough to manage. Three tables left without being served. Well, if the establishment does not have the capacity to serve timely, cut the tables in half and serve the remaining properly. We just shared to the entire flotilla of 120 people our negative experience. And we stay overnight in Skiathos...

Mario's Cuisine: A Must-Visit in Skiathos

Mario's Cuisine truly impressed me! I dined there twice, and if I had known about it earlier, I would have returned even more often. They kindly prepared a personalized shrimp dish for me since I wanted saganaki but don’t eat feta. As a lovely surprise, they treated us to some watermelon and mastic on the house.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mario, the owner, who is a wonderful and very dedicated person, just like the rest of the staff. They made sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of, especially during one of the rainy evenings.

We were sitting at a restaurant a bit further up the street, but during our walk we were drawn to Taverna Varthalamis and decided to sit down by chance. We mentioned we just wanted a dessert — the place was full — yet the staff was incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to find us a spot, without the usual “we can’t” attitude you often get. Sadly, many restaurants in Skiathos treat you like a walking wallet, which is why we always ask first.

Taverna Varthalamis quickly became one of our favorite places — we ended up coming back three days in a row!
