We stopped at Korali Restaurant after noticing they had a Romanian-translated menu, something that really helped us out, especially since my father doesn’t speak English. It was a thoughtful touch that made the place stand out right away for us.
We arrived sometime between 7:10 and 7:20 PM. At the time, it was fairly quiet, and we were seated immediately by friendly staff. However, by the time our food arrived, exactly 26 minutes and 33 seconds later (yes, we timed it), the restaurant was almost fully packed. While the wait time wasn’t extreme, considering it wasn’t too busy when we ordered, it felt a bit on the slow side.
The Food
My Dish: Mixed Grill (No. 153) – €15.50
My plate came with lamb chops, a pork souvlaki (wrapped in bacon), two grilled chicken fillets, one meatball, and sides of Mediterranean style yellow rice, fries, a small salad, and beetroot colored beans with actual beetroot bits. The lamb was cooked decently but tasted quite bland and dry. The pork souvlaki, however, was the highlight, juicy, flavorful, and balanced, easily my favorite. The meatball was the weak link, no real flavor, very plain. The chicken fillets were grilled very well, nicely seasoned and satisfying. The bacon around the souvlaki added great flavor and juiciness.
The rice and fries were okay, though nothing special... For €15.50, I’d say it was a fair price, though the portion wasn’t overly generous. Presentation was passable, meats and sides were organized, but lacked visual flair. For me, that matters, though my parents didn’t mind.
Father’s Dish: Pork Tenderloin with Vegetables & Croquettes (No. 121) – €16.50
My father’s pork tenderloin was tender and flavorful, if slightly under seasoned. The vegetables, though I didn’t try them, were fresh and well cooked, according to him. The croquettes were soft inside, just a tiny bit crispy, but overall very average.
What stood out most was the presentation, his plate was arranged better than mine and actually looked quite appealing. He finished the entire meal and was very satisfied.
Mother’s Dish: Chicken Fillet with Mushroom Sauce & Potatoes (No. 133) – €12.00
The chicken was grilled and decently juicy, though the mushroom sauce kind of stole the spotlight. I’m not personally a fan of mushroom sauces, but it was clearly creamy, rich, and homemade, my mother really enjoyed it.
The fried potatoes complemented the dish nicely, and overall, the presentation was elevated by the saucing. She also finished her plate with no complaints.
Sides, Drinks & Pricing
We also had: Bread (3 slices), which wasn’t just plain bread, it had some sort of dressing or sauce in the middle, though we couldn’t tell exactly what it was. 1L water (we asked for an 1.5L water but recieved an 1L, but no worries we got charged for the 1L we received) 1 small Sprite (250ml)
The total bill was €52.50, which places Korali in the mid-range pricing category, and we all agreed it was fair value for the location and quantity.
Service
The staff was generally polite, helpful, and spoke poor to decent English. That said, our server had some difficulty translating menu items and had to check the Greek version while talking to us. It didn’t bother us much, but it’s something they could improve.
The only downside in terms of service came when we asked for a smoke coil to repel wasps, as 4 of them appeared the moment the food hit the table. The waitress did bring it, but also added, “Everywhere is like this, not just here,” which felt a bit dismissive. A more polite response would have gone a long way in making us feel better.
No one came to check on us during the meal (which is a big downside), but the bill was accurate and clear.
Atmosphere
The seaside location was beautiful, casual, breezy, and relaxing. Even as the restaurant filled up, it stayed fairly peaceful, though we had the unfortunate luck to sit between two larger families... One with chatty elders and another with three children, so there was a bit of background noise. Still, the overall vibe...
Read moreUpdate on August 2025: After we dined here on every visit in Thasos I’d still recommend this place if you’re looking for great food, but only during lunchtime, because in the evening this place is not organised at all.
After 8-9PM expect a wait time of at least one hour from when you’re seated until your food arrives. Worst case was when we got seated at 9PM and received starters after one hour and main courses 5-10 minutes apart until 10:40. While we waited, we saw other customers get seated, ordered and got food delivered while we were still waiting for starters.
All in all, please give this place a try because the food is awesome, but be aware of wait times during evenings.
Original review, 2022: We dined here multiple times during our trip in Thassos.
Food was very tasty. I recommend the salmon and shrimps with rice but you can’t go wrong with any dish.
Staff is very friendly, especially Mr. Sakis.
Serving was fine, but on some busy nights we waited a bit for food or bill. For us that was understandable, after all we’re on vacation, not on the run.
Dessert on the house is a nice touch. We noticed this on many taverns from Thassos.
On the other hand, most of the taverns and coffee places offered cold water on the house. In Korali we had to order it.
I suggest you give it a try even if you have to wait for a table, but reservations can be...
Read moreWe recently had dinner at Taverna Korali. The food itself was quite good – fresh, tasty, and satisfying. We enjoyed the traditional flavors, and overall the kitchen did a nice job.
Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. During our meal, the waiters were arguing with each other in full view of the customers, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. When we asked for the bill, the waitress came over with her phone and manually calculated the total in front of us in a clumsy, unprofessional way, waiting for us to pay immediately without even presenting a proper check.
Another disappointment was the inconsistency in how guests were treated. At the end of the evening, all the other tables received complimentary watermelon from the house – except us. When we asked how much it cost or why we hadn’t received any, we didn’t get any clear answer at all.
In short: the food is good and worth trying, but the staff really need to improve their attitude and professionalism to match the quality of the kitchen. I hope they address these issues so everyone can enjoy the...
