TLDR: Great food, great variety, extraordinary friendly people, nice atmosphere and fair prices. My wife and me ate here for almost two weeks and we're leaving stuffed and happy - had a great time here and will definitely come back.
The Apollon is a family run tavern with more focus on traditional food and ambiance than the competitors around. For Laganas the tavern is relatively quiet (what we liked) since it is located a bit away from the main road (Laganas road). The ambient is a bit more traditional than in the other restaurants. For example there's always greek music instead of the club(ish) sounds around - big plus for us. If you're into sports, they put a TV onto a wall in the outer area when there's a notable event. Helps if you like but also doesn't disturb if you don't. The food - and choice of it - is great! Even though they don't offer a ton of different dishes, there's still something for almost any taste. To us it seemed they rather focus on the dishes they offer and do them great instead of just offering "everything" but on cost of quality. Thumbs up for this! Portions are mostly huge - expect to gain some weight :) . For the amount and quality we'd say the pricing is fair. Not to different from the restaurants around. They also offer a variety of deserts and drinks like multiple brands of beer (can recommend "Alpha"), wine, cocktails and spirits - local and foreign. As my wife uses a wheelchair, I'll mention it here: The tavern itself is as barrier free as it gets in greece. A ramp is available to get past the steps on the entrance. Beware, it's quite steep. Better don't try to climb it alone - but also don't worry. The owner and his son are really nice people and as soon as they notice, they'll kindly offer their help.
We'd give 10 out of 5 stars and will be back when we come to the beautiful island of Zakythos again. Thanks for the great time Angelo & family! Stay as you are and all the best...
Read moreLovely, family run restaurant. The husband (Angelo’s) and wife (?) make up for a very dynamic duo, ably assisted by their son (Fabio, age 16), and their younger daughter. Angelos and Fabio are two of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve met in a long time. In particular Fabio shows a degree of maturity one expects from people twice his age, yet rarely find. During our 8-day stay we had intended to try other restaurants not too far from our hotel, yet found ourselves drawn to the Apollon, every night bar one. That should give an idea of the family welcome as well as the quality of the food (not once did I feel we were being served with frozen meals, it was always fresh).
If you ever get the opportunity to go to the restaurant I can recommend it. The food is well cooked and even the items listed on the menu can be changed, the cooks being so flexible even when busy.
The food is a combination of basic America style on one part of the menu, but goes into authentic Greek dishes elsewhere including the coffee which isn’t like any I’ve tried before but is...
Read moreThis was our first time at Zakynthos, and my first time at Greece in general. We arrived on Sunday July 28th, 2024 for 4 days and three nights. On our second night at Zakynthos, I looked up on Google about recommendations for dinner, and I randomly chose to look for this restaurant. The reviews were so good and it was just 8 minutes walk from our hotel, that we decided to go there. Since the first time I met Angelos, the owner, and his son Fabio, they treated us like family.
All of the reviews were right about Apollon restaurant, an authentic super delicious Greek traditional food, owned and operated by a local Greek family, with affordable prices, in a so clean place, with Greek music but no so loud, that you can't talk to each other. A very nice atmosphere The best is how their staff received you and treated everyone with so respect and with a big smile.
We liked so much this place, that we returned the next night, our last one in Zakynthos and in Greece.
We...
