Double Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

Lured in, left dissappointed.

As it is common in places like Argassi, restaurants often have a member of staff greeting people and inviting them in. Here, it was a lovely elderly man who succeeded at talking us into coming for a dinner. Unfortunately.

While the staff was friendly, the food wasn’t good. We chose tzatziki as a starter and fish meze for two for our main. The tzatziki was nice, served with pita bread, though we certainly tried better in Argassi. The main, however, was a disaster. The meze consisted of: fried calamari - practically tasteless but edible grilled octopus - a bit burned but not that bad shrimps - obviously deep-frozen before, tasted terrible and we hoped we wouldn’t get poisoned sardines - quite good, thankfully sea-bass - the saddest part of the plate - the fish itself was fine and cooked pretty well but its gallbladder was cut, making part of the fish inedible.

I would advise to choose another place. Though I read through the reviews which vary a lot, so perhaps just try your luck - might leave satisfied, might wish...

We ordered our food and drink and were asked which type of bread we wanted, pitta or garlic. Garlic bread was 4 small slices between 3 of us. I had the Zakynthos style lamb which was very greasy and seemed to have processed rather than fresh vegetables. Good size portion of main course and quite tasty. When bill came (not itemised), 4 Euros extra had been charged for the bread which I thought was excessive. Tried to pay with credit card and waiter said machine is broken. I asked the man running front of house and he said they dont take credit cards but there is an ATM next door. Overall food was good but service was poor. There is lots of competition with many other restaurants in the area and i would suggest trying some of those...

I've never seen people so passionate about their food, atmosphere and service. This restaurant has the best Greek food you can only imagine and the vibe from the staff is just fenomenal. You are going to feel like you're their best friend and family. They are so nice and kind and honest. We were also amased by food and wine. The portions are big and the price is good. We each ordered a meal for less then 10 euros and just couldn't finish it because there were so much...
