What is true about this place is that the restaurant is beautiful, and the staff are very friendly. Unfortunately, the food did not leave a good mark on us. The starting complimentary bread and dips were stingy, to say the least. Two large rolls are served, with barely enough dip for one person, let alone two. About a teaspoon and a bit of olive tapenade and truffle butter are given. Our starters were extremely small as well. We had pita and Tzatziki- the Tzatziki was delicious, and the pita bread was tiny little quarters of pita, and they were so "charred" that they tasted burnt. We also ordered the prawn saganaki stater - the sauce was awful. It was extremely acidic.
Same for the mains, we ordered the pork steak tomahawk, which could've been delicious, but it was topped with a very acidic dressing (which was not listed on the menu when ordering). I asked to switch my potatoes (which were extremely bland, even though they were described as "aromatic") for chips, and I was told no dishes may be adjusted at all.... and I found that really strange. I wasn't asking to change a recipe, just to switch out my starch. My husband had the prawn pasta, and it was the worst pasta dish either of us had ever had. And now, my husband is a "golden retriever husband" - he never complains and is always just happy to enjoy his meal, lol. But he was so bitterly disappointed in the overly tomato-y and VERY acidic sauce the pasta was served in. It was a very a flat dish, with no real flavor profile and was agian a small portion.
All in all, it was quite a pricy evening (more than 80 euros, for just two tiny starters and two mid mains) and it gave me "inexperienced chef" vibes.
The staff and the view were the only saving graces, to be honest. V...
Read moreWe had lunch at this restaurant, which from the reviews was very good. They had a lunch menu that was a little light so we asked the waiter if we could have the dinner menu. He said yes. This is where everything went wrong! First because we tried to order also from the lunch menu to mix the but the waiter was really annoyed about that and said no to that. After we ordered some pork belly, 2 orzotto gematas and one with sea food. Besides from the pork belly everything was wrong … he literally forgot what we ordered. We asked to bring us again what we ordered and we said yes. After 15 minutes he brings again something different an one plate missing, he forgot about it. We again repeated our order to him, he said “yes” but after 30 seconds he came back and asked us how many mousaka we ordered( we were the only table occupied in the whole restaurant). This was mind blowing !!!! We asked to talk to a manager but the answer was that nobody is there. We confronted the waiter and he was completely frozen and unresponsive. After this nobody came to us to talk or anything else. I never in my whole life experienced something like this. Like we were in some kind of a bad movie. We got out of the restaurant leaving our address of the hotel and kindly invited the manager to talk with him. I cannot believe that he knows that he has this kind of service there. Besides that, the food was ok(if you get what you ordered)and the view great. Do not recommend only for that. It’s a restaurant not a site...
Read moreGreek food, but with a fine dining feel. We started with a dry rosé from a Greek vineyard. It was exactly as described, dry with fruit notes and a slightly mineral edge, which we loved. We had complimentary fresh, warm bread (sourdough, I believe) rolls with an olive tapenade and a spead that had hints of garlic and white truffle (although I might be mistaken.) For starters, my partner had their Spiral Pie, a flaky pastry construction with feta, thyme honey, sesame seeds and slices of strawberry. I had a taste and thought it was delicious. I had Saganaki Bites which was equally tasty. Saganaki cheese in a tempura type batter, with a tomato chutney. Glorious. I had the salmon fillet for my main, which came with a celeriac purée, and a citrus dressed salad. It was done to perfection. Jo was a little more adventurous and plumped for the slow-cooked Beef Railway. The meat literally fell from the bone and melted in the mouth. It came with a wild horseradish purée and a red wine jus. Equal parts comforting and delicious was the verdict. We skipped dessert, the portion sizes having left us full enough, but they looked just as impressive. The setting was a big draw, eating as we were, overlooking the sea, in a tastefully lit restaurant. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive, adding positively to the experience. I have no qualms in thoroughly recommending Kavo and would happily go again. But maybe leave enough room for...
