Mantalena — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

Such a lovely warm welcome to the restaurant from front of house. We were a party of 8 and the service was faultless. Everyone's meals were so tasty and authentic to the area. They sell Retsina which I believe is made locally on the island (it's very hard to get in the UK) so lovely treat. I had the beef steak which was one of the best steaks I've ever had. So unbelievably seasoned and delicious with chips and salad. Other faves on the table were beaf stefado, rabbit, chicken pasta. Really great and delicious greek food and a lot of vegetarian/vegan options! Also, the prices were more then reasonable, especially for the size of the portions we got. Each of us took one starter (bruschetta and one filo pastry dish), and they were already very filling. So the only recommendation we would give is to make the portions of the starters a little bit smaller since we both almost couldn’t finish our main dishes which were also quite big portions. I would have loved to give this place a bigger review. We ate here twice. The first night we had calamari grilled and is was okay. But the second night, I ordered octopus and the man who served us said it was fresh not frozen. When the plate came, I realised that what I got was not octopus but calamari tentacles ( they didn't have any suction cups like octopus, instead they had little hooks). The price was 15.5 euro, which I admit it made the scam a bit more acceptable because grilled octopus is usually around 21 euro. Other restaurants in this area...
