We came here for a late lunch after running around the zoo (and the city of Guatemala more broadly). For food, we started off with a Peruvian ceviche and another ceviche like dish. Both were excellent but the ceviche is tastier (I think) and much easier to share. We then had a sea and land combination platter (for two) which was shared amongst five people. This came with a few cuts of beef, some chicken and half a lobster. It was amazing. We were able to have it with four sides, so we had some beans, some chips, some salad and some grilled vegetables (they were brilliant). Be aware that the portions are large and filling - you can always order more later! I then scanned the google reviews and found that the flamed bone marrow steak is very popular amongst people who write google reviews so my family and I thought we’d see what it was like. I attached a (poorly taken) video for you to see. Safe to say, it was excellent. We had it with some corn and grilled vegetables (because they were awesome). The steaks here are brilliant, tender, juicy and well seasoned.
For drinks, we had a litre of coco limonada to share. This was ok but not brilliant. We then asked about Flor De Jamaica and what it was and we got a (half glass) taste. It was amazing so we had a litre of that too. We thought the pricing of drinks was weird, as the 1.5 litre portions are more expensive per unit volume than the 1 litre varieties. This is why we had 2 lots of 1 litre varieties- we could have easily had 2 1.5 litre varieties if that were better value.
In terms of service, it was exceptional. Each table is assigned a waiter or waitress who will look after your table and maybe one or two others. So help is never far away. We also got some excellent recommendations for some side dishes - we would have probably not chosen beans or corn as side dishes- but our waiter said they were good and he was right.
Because we had a bus to catch, we didn’t get dessert, but it would have been great to have had.
In summary, portions are big, side dishes are delicious, waiters are very attentive and the drinks are pretty good too. The only thing I would warn you of is that they play replays of soccer games on the screen so don’t go here if you don’t like soccer, but you can be seated in a place where you can ignore the replays.
I look forward to returning here on my next trip to Guatemala City. Make sure you add Las carnes De Rodrigo to your itinerary in Guatemala City - you will be...
Read moreThis was me and my brothers last meal in Guatemala and it was incredible. We ate at the best steak houses in every town we visited and this stood out above the rest. For an American tourist the price and quality is unmatched.
The atmosphere is great (I prefer to be seated around more people for the ambiance) but even with it pretty busy it seemed like everyone had their own private experience.
We each got a 16 oz ribeye with the gold coating, corn and veges and it was a phenomenal cut of meat. I prefer my steak lightly seasoned and this had the perfect amount so you can still taste the meat but also still have the salt and pepper flavor.
After 2 of these meals, multiple scotches and sending a drink to a table with a birthday we were still very happy with the bill.
The flame searing at the table with a torch was a very nice and fun touch. Not only would I go back but I wish I had another opportunity to go back before we left.
Highly recommend for a nice night out. It cost us about $160 USD each but in the USA it would have been hundreds more. Plus Ive never seen the gold option for a steak in all of southern California. It...
Read moreUna agradable experiencia.
