Every aspect of the evening was perfect!

This is by far the best dining experience in guernsey I have ever had. The venue is beautiful and all the details were taken into consideration.

The staff are very attentive as we were immediately seated with menus and water. At the sushi bar we were served by the chef who was extremely helpful in suggesting some amazing sushi dishes. To start we had the tempura crab and calamari, the presentation was beautiful and it tasted delicious. We went on to try the dragon rolls, spicy tuna rolls, unagi nigiri and some sashimi. Both a long time sushi fan and stranger to the cuisine were impressed! We finished with a banoffee pie and chocolate tart for dessert. Both could melt in your mouth! I couldn't believe the banoffee pie was gluten and dairy free!

I can't forget to mention the incredible bartender who made me some incredible cocktails. She was also very attentive, interacting with us with her trips to and from the bar, which just added the the already fun welcoming experience.

I have to say that it is on the more expensive side but worth it 100 times over. Far better than anything else in Guernsey at the same price. In fact it was more than worth the money because between my friend and I we tipped 25%!

For anyone who wants an amazing dining experience in Guernsey, whether you're a local or just visiting, go no further...

If Guernsey is the undiscovered Crown Jewel of Channel Islands gastronomic destinations, Hook is the dazzling centre-set stone.

Sumptuous local sea bass so scrumily fresh for the second fillet you’ll rapidly devolve to become Gollum-like, before crunching down on the salty crispy skin first: who needs white meat? Or conversation?

Pair it with a perfectly balanced recommend white from any or all of the ‘in the know’ sommelier staff as they kindly rejig timing and dietary requirements for a complex and needy party of four without batting an eyelid.

That’s ignoring perfect (yes) chips and a right-side of raw home made burger patty for tartar loving children so well executed you wish you’d bought a second stomach as you envy this restaurant’s range.

Then…

A charcoal smoked Oyster so sublime and utterly sufficient in its taste modalities that when (not ‘if’) you return for a second visit, I challenge you against this taste-bud heroin, to forget it and not order it again. Impossible.

Is this the best restaurant in Guernsey? Is the pope an American? Please, please, don’t tell anyone about this...

We really enjoyed our lunch at Hook - we tried the fixed price lunch menu and everything was delicious. The service was truly excellent - couldn’t fault anything about it at all. It was very quiet in there for a Saturday lunchtime, but that wasn’t a massive issue, as the decor makes it feel cosy and intimate even when there aren’t many people in there. My only comment would be they perhaps ought to try to make the menu sound more appealing. When I looked at the menu online before we went, I thought it looked really uninspiring, and lacked detail on what the dishes actually contained. I think it would appeal to people more if a bit of detail was provided to really sell the dishes. I’m very glad we gave the new menu a chance and we will be back! It was particularly good for gluten free options - I was able to eat almost anything on the menu, as they had tweaks they could make to most of the dishes, which was so nice to see. Thanks to the staff for a great experience...

Without fault. The upstairs cocktail bar is a lively bar with utlra-modern decor and top end cocktails ranging from the classics to their own playful twists. It's a great place to come for an aperitif before heading downstairs to the restaurant.... .....where the nicest surprise was the sushi; some of the best I have had anywhere in the world. The boat, whilst pricey, was burgeoning with sushi and fish of all kinds and each piece was delicious. Our non-sushi-lover in our group had a cod risotto which they assured the rest of us was equally divine. The hardest part was choosing a bottle of wine from the wine list which was even more full than the sushi boat (I recommend the red zinfandel)! It's wonderful that Guernsey, after years of people lamenting the lack of anything modern and 'en vogue', finally has a place such as this that would not look out of place in a major city. Bravo to the team behind The Hook and may their success continue for a long time.

So as of June 2024, Hook underwent a change of concept and is different to what it used to be. The sushi is gone and the new concept is a tapas style, small dish type of dining. First time here post re-opening. Service is great, casual atmosphere with great staff. Food is a combo of snack style bites, small cold and hot starter portions and some mains. Overall I find this style of dining more expensive as I've got a decent appetite. Steak tartare was very nice, Octopus Ceviche, monk fish. 2 of us, no alcohol, inc 10% top, circa £72pp, no dessert but we got a good selection of things to try.
