"When you visit us at Nicky-Tams you can guarantee a great warmth in atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and great food. We hope you make a visit to us soon." Been going to this bar for years and would rate it highly BUT ...Took my brother there on Saturday afternoon (approx 13-14:00 hrs 19-08-23) ? There were 2 barmen on, one really nice guy who served us and another rather stressed out individual. The bar wasn't busy. I asked for a round and the barman without looking at me shouted "WAIT". When he came to serve me I said "wait" and preceeded to engage with the other barman. Mr Wait then said to the serving barman "don't serve him" . I asked why and he said you're drunk (1 pint in ?). He said he was "the owner". We obviously left after that. If the actual owner is reading this please get shot of this guy as he is not good front of house, he has no people skills and wilts under minimum pressure. If the guy is indeed the owner then...step aside, your staff are excellent and don't need you messing things up. To the guy who initially served us..thanks, you were friendly and gave good service. We could see you were uncomfortable working alongside this guy but kept smiling. This interchange won't sour our Nicky Tams experience and...
Read moreLovely bar, beer was really good and not that badly priced. The issue was with the attitude of the bar staff. Was in with a group of 5 who sat down near the bar, had a few drinks and a chat with some of the other customers in the bar. Friend of mine went up to the bar and one of the barman (appeared to be a younger guy in his early twenties) immediately started to tear into my female friend saying that he was refusing to serve any of us because one member of the group was too drunk, when I went up to ask what was happening (as my female friend was quite upset at his attitude) he told me the same and refused to say who the member of the table was. We left and went down to Meraki (an up market cocktail bar) where we where served no problem and enjoyed the remainder of our evening in there
I have spoken to a number of people in the past week who have shared similar incidents in this bar (sounds like with the same barman when he was described). Simon to sure where the individuals attitude has come from but hope the owner knows that it is affecting people’s opinions on the establishment. Which is a shame because it is a great little bar in Stirling. Just a shame that the attitude of one member of staff would stop people...
Read moreA nice old-fashioned small cosy bothy bar up the hill in Baker street in the old town. Old well-worn stone flagstones, well-polished wooden bar and the like. I quite liked the rustic downstairs vibe, although at the upstairs tables there was a distinct lack of atmosphere - and decor! We ate there early on Sunday evening and were the only guests, so I'd guess the restaurant bit upstairs warms up with more customers. There were a couple of small outside tables on the pavement - brownie points for trying! And I understand there are music events and a pub quiz. The portions were a generous size, and at around £10+ for mains we all thought the value was reasonable. However the menu wasn't inspiring - just par-for-the-course pub grub: Soup, the usual sandwiches (e.g. tuna, ham, cheese, BLT etc), choice of burgers, scampi, chicken curry, Hunter's chicken etc; also various haggis dishes, sides - and others including a veggie option - plus a small dessert menu. Nothing exceptional in my opinion. Service wasn't sharp - it took around 30 minutes for our food to be served. If I'm honest, I think 3 and a half stars is about right - I thought 4 stars would have been a...
