We came here (foreigners) and saw the place was highly rated! The lunch deal was so good (less than $10 USD for a three course?!) so we wanted to give it a try.
The moment we opened the door, we were greeted (or not greeted) by a woman who seemed annoyed we didn’t have a reservation even though the restaurant was empty. She told me to shut the door, and my boyfriend misunderstood her to thinking she said something like ‘you can sit there’ and she was annoyed when we misunderstood what she said.
So after getting seated and ordering our meal, which honestly was really good! We had no complaints with the food itself. We aren’t from here so I’m not sure what standards are held for certain dishes, but we would come back, especially for that price.
Except, we won’t be coming back because the service was so weird and rude! I noticed two different tables by me got to pay at their table, and the man was prompt about checking them out. When we finished our food, we were waiting. And waiting. And both the man and woman there wouldn’t look at us, yet would address the other 3 tables? They were not busy at all, and one of the tables that showed up after us got to pay and leave before us.
After waiting maybe 10+ minutes, my boyfriend had to stare down one of the employees and signal we wanted a bill because they were deep in their cell phones??? And the man seemed annoyed that we requested service..
The weirdest part for us was that every other table he brought over the card device to let them pay at their table. He brought a bill to ours as if he expected us to leave our card in it… I think he assumed we were both American (I am, my boyfriend is not thankfully. It’s custom in America to hand over your card, but not anywhere else) and we both didn’t feel comfortable handing over the card. So we had to walk all the way over to him to process the payment, even though I watched him bring the card processor to the other two tables!
I have no idea if it was malicious, or if he was just being rude. I’m not entirely sure. But it threw us off and we won’t be returning! Bad service isn’t worth the price!! I hate leaving bad reviews but I wanted to warn others 🥲 we also read other reviews after the fact that they were rude to Hungarians so I think they are just...
Read moreI don't like criticising restaurants but I have to say this. I saw the name of this place popping on several sites saying the food is too good etc. But the experience was quite the opposite for us. The server seemed disinterested and absent. There were hardly any people when we reached there for lunch. So being occupied can't be used as an excuse. Secondly our wine was diluted with water. We have had wine in many restaurants throughout our holidays. We have experienced this dilution gimmick before but at this place it was right-in-your-face obvious! The goulash soup was okay. And that's saying something because we have had the soup at 6 other restaurants. The main course lacked flavors. I appreciate simple, home cooked food even at a restaurant but this was a bad experience. The spaghetti noodles had no salt in it at all. (Is this how it's made or was it a mistake?) The chicken curry barely had any salt in it (I added salt but it just made the curry inedible). It tasted more like cream. The dessert was okay. I had really looked forward to having a great time here but it was disappointing in every way. I hope you do something about it. Next time I would like to come at your restaurant and have an experience with good service, non-diluted wine and better...
Read moreVery nice experience, actually much better than I expected;)…food was great even by my own local/Hungarian standards and most importantly my foreign quests also loved it. It was a full house, we were lucky that I could reserve a table last minute, ordered some classic soups (Gulyas, Jokai bableves, husleves) and main dishes, (pörkölt, paprikas csirke, and tripes with marrow….for myself as local;))) and all tasted lovely, really thumbs up!!! Staff were cool, professional, service fast despite full house….nice wine recommended with the meal. A final remark to tourists as I almost reminded a seemingly disappointed one: this is a great place with excellent traditional Hungarian food so please don’t be disappointed if you won’t get olive oil on your salad….i saw the staff kindly brought some salad dressing to a table that asked for it and also saw the clients making faces when they saw what they received. Guys, for great olive oil (I am also a fan) you can go to the already too many Italian places in town, here just enjoy the way we eat our food….by the way, the pickles were also great…. without olive oil, as they...
