"Pure Veg" spot – the only on the street and with the premium prices, one would think the food would be great? it was not even "just ok."
We tried the Veg thali, Veg biryani, Chowmein Veg, Papaya shake, and their fancy banana lassi. First off, portions were like snacks. And everything tasted like they went crazy with the spice – even for desi taste buds.
About the prices. The Papaya shake and lassi were playing hard to get in tiny cups for INR 90 & 100 each. I've had better shakes for a fraction of that price. The Veg thali was a whopping INR 170 – no dessert, small sides, and rice. Meanwhile, a neighbouring restaurant gives a whole thali experience, including Gulab jamun (dessert) for INR 60 !
The Veg Biryani for INR 220 was a joke. It's more like spicy rice with lonely green peas. No raita, just a spice fest. We had to call in reinforcements (extra INR 140) in the form of yoghurt just to survive it. And the Chowmein Veg? I don't even know what that was. Low-quality noodles with traces of carrots and I managed to finish it with ketchup.
Sure, the owner was friendly, but good vibes don't fill hungry stomachs. For a place with a 4.5-star rating, the disappointment was real. Hope they take this feedback to heart and improve their food quality and...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went here for breakfast after a sunrise taj mahal visit and then went back for dinner. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable and the rooftop is beautiful for an evening view of the Taj. It is a long running family business and all the staff were so welcoming and helpful, if you are not sure what to order you can be sure that they will give you great recommendations. Nick and his father are also super friendly and happy to chat about Agra (or anything at all) and the place has a lovely calm atmosphere.
The menu is extensive with great options that everyone can enjoy whether you are omnivore, veggie or vegan. The vegan options are helpfully marked out and everything we had was delicious and very carefully prepared. Tourists also do not have to worry about their stomachs when eating here as food is prepared with mineral water. We especially recommend the spinach and potato curry and the masala dahl, it was delish!
Overall we had a great time on the rooftop watching the sunset over the Taj Mahal and also watching the monkeys run over the buildings. Cannot recommend this place enough. It's a great taste of real indian food run by a lovely local family. Check it out if you are nearby, you...
Read moreThe food was okay, but the portions were quite small for the price. We had read some good things on the reviews, so we were expecting a better experience.
Service started off fine when we ordered downstairs, but things quickly became frustrating. They initially brought the wrong lassi, and when we pointed it out, the server just shrugged and left it on the table instead of offering to fix it. Then, when our food arrived, some dishes were missing or incorrect. I went downstairs to clarify, and they admitted they knew about the lassi mistake but hadn’t done anything about it. They assured me they would fix the food order, which they eventually did, but when the bill came, they still tried to charge us for the missing dishes. On top of that, we later realized we had been overcharged.
Normally, I wouldn’t mind small mix-ups, but the way the staff handled everything made it frustrating. Instead of acknowledging the mistakes and making things right, they were dismissive and unhelpful, especially when it came to the bill. Having traveled in India for months, I don’t expect flawless service, but this was one of the more disappointing...
