I recently dined at Chennai Kitchen, a pure South Indian restaurant located in the heart of Chennai. Overall, I had a positive experience with the taste of the food being the highlight of my visit. I had the opportunity to try almost every item on the menu, except for the snacks items.
Let's start with the positives. The taste of the food at Chennai Kitchen is undeniably good. As a lover of South Indian cuisine, I was delighted to find authentic flavors in the dishes I tried. From the tangy sambar to the aromatic rasam, and the creamy coconut chutney, the flavors were spot on. The dosas were thin, crispy, and filled with the right amount of spiced potatoes. The idlis were soft and fluffy, and the vadas were perfectly fried to a golden brown. The main course items like the aromatic biryanis and the flavorful curries were also impressive. It was evident that the chefs at Chennai Kitchen take pride in creating dishes that truly represent the rich culinary heritage of South India.
However, I was slightly disappointed with the snacks items, which I didn't get to try. In terms of ambiance, Chennai Kitchen has a cozy and homely atmosphere. The restaurant is clean, well-lit, and has comfortable seating arrangements. The service was prompt and courteous, with the staff being knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to my needs.
One thing that stood out for me was the tea at Chennai Kitchen. I had heard rave reviews about the tea here, and it lived up to the hype. The tea was piping hot, fragrant, and had just the right balance of flavors. It was the perfect way to end my meal at Chennai Kitchen.
In conclusion, Chennai Kitchen is a pure South Indian restaurant that offers delicious and authentic flavors of South India. While the taste of the food is excellent overall, with a special mention for their tea, the unavailability of snacks items during my visit was a disappointment. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of South Indian cuisine and looking for a place that serves flavorful and authentic dishes, Chennai Kitchen is...
Read moreThose seeking to savor authentic South Indian dishes in Guwahati should definitely visit Chennai Kitchen located at Christian Basti, G S Road. It's a ten minutes walk from Ganeshguri flyover to Chennai Kitchen restaurant. Chennai Kitchen serves good quality South Indian dishes of a wide variety. It's quite a popular restaurant among the people of Guwahati who are fans of South Indian dishes. In fact I had to wait for about twenty five minutes in que before I could enter the restaurant. It had that kind of a rush that day.
Two things that stood out in the restaurant are: 1) The attire of the serving staff which resembles that of a typical Tamil gentleman (wearing a dhoti and kurta- both shining white); and 2) The serving utensils which appeared to be made of Bell metal.
The items that are served in the restaurant have been priced quite reasonably, I feel, except for a few dosa varieties which go beyond INR Three Hundred. Along with South Indian dishes the restaurant also serves a variety of 'Chaat' items including 'Pani puri', 'Dahi puri', Dahi vada', 'Paw bhaji', etc.
On the cleanliness front, I would say Chennai Kitchen is quite decently maintained and the staff as well as the owners take cleanliness quite seriously. I didn't find any flaws as far as cleanliness is concerned.
I found the behaviour of the staff working in the restaurant quite ok except for one person who appeared to be an elderly and senior one. Except that person all the others were quite good mannered.
Modes of payment include cash as well as all sorts of cards...
