I wasn't sure what to expect from Japanese good going into Crosstown Japan for dinner, but I needn't have worried.
We ordered a Seafood Ramen, a Chicken Katsu Donburi for the main course and both were excellent. The quantity was also sufficient for one.
I love ramen, and so I'm going to keep the ramen review short. It was good. Very good. You can go in hungry, have this ramen and be full and happy. The end.
The Donburi is a serving of chicken fried with something that resembles bread crumbs tossed around with egg a-la egg-burji over a layer of rice.. Now I'm not your person for certifying authenticity of this preparation - I mean I'm having japanese food for the first time in my life (except Ramen) but what I can certify for sure is that both dishes were uniquely flavourful and the Donburi especially has a flavor that was like nothing I have ever had before (in a very good way). The garnishing is Japanese seaweed (I think) and it too had a very unique fishy flavor. Really good.
Since it's not everyday that you go have Japanese food, we also ordered the Takoyaki and Matcha Jelly. I didn't like the match jelly all that much - but that's no surprise since I am not a big fan of the green tea taste. So that's on me, and not on the chef. I'm trying to describe the Takoyaki and words fail me because it's quite unlike anything I can compare it to... It's 4 balls of the size about halfway between tennis and ping-pong balls. That's the shell which encases something within. I have no real idea of what they are made of but it's supposed to have octopus/squid and it was quite a unique (but mild) flavor of its own.
Had a small chat with the owner when were about to leave, and he seems knowledgeable and enthusiastic about it all. He mentioned that they were open for about 3 years, but curiously I have only recently noticed this restaurant though I have been walking these roads for over a year now.
Some may consider the menu to be on the pricier side, but I think it's justified for a place that serves food that's out of the ordinary. There's probably just shipping/supply costs that cannot be amortised with volume.
In all, I think it was...

Irasshaimase to Cross Town Japan
I'm so thrilled and excited to share my exceptional dining experience at Cross Town Japan (5c, George Court, 501, 5th Main Rd, HRBR Layout 2nd Block), I would say its honestly an hidden gem in Bengaluru that brings Japan to India. The moment I with my family and friends walked in, we were treated to an authentic Japanese culinary journey.
The sushi was fresh and delectable, the oysters were juicy and succulent, and on advise of chef Berley Thomas, we went in for the caviar which added a luxurious touch.
But what truly impressed me and all of us was the variety of Japanese delicacies which they on offer, including mouth-flavorful ramen, roasted delicate pork. We also enjoyed the matcha, which was a perfect blend of traditional and modern flavors.
The most memorable for us, was which made our experience even more special was meeting Chef Berly, the owner and mastermind behind the kitchen.
With his years of experience working under renowned Japanese chefs, Chef's Berly's passion for Japanese cuisine is evident in every dish. Whats more, he is incredibly humble and down to earth, taking the time to explain the stories behind each dish, ingredient used in each dish and above all teaching us how to savour each dish.
Chef Berly's dedication to authencity and quality shines through shines through in every bite. And his passion for sharing Japanese culture and cuisines with his customer is infectious, and we left feeling grateful for the experience we all had.
Finally guys, if you are a food looking for an authentic Japanese experience in Bengaluru, look no further than Cross Town Japan, which I strongly recommend visiting to taste the real flavours of Japan outside of Japan. Chef Berly's expertise and warmth will surely make you feel like you're dining in Tokyo itself!

Arigatou...
Read moreI recently revisited Cross Town Japan, a restaurant which I had previously found underwhelming in terms of service, despite its good food. However, I’m happy to say that things have turned around significantly over the past few months.
The moment I entered, I noticed a much more organized and attentive staff, welcoming guests with warm smiles and efficiently handling seating arrangements, even during peak hours. What struck me was the attention to detail in both service and presentation, something that was previously lacking. The staff is now well-versed in the menu, offering insightful suggestions based on your preferences and giving diners a personalized experience.
The sushi is still the star of the show—fresh, beautifully crafted, and bursting with flavor. I recommend the salmon sashimi and the prawn tempura, both of which were excellent. The miso soup, which previously came out lukewarm, was served piping hot this time. The overall pace of service has also improved, with dishes arriving promptly without long gaps.
A few months ago, the slow service and occasional miscommunication dampened the experience, but now, it seems the management has taken customer feedback seriously. The waiting time has been reduced significantly, and the servers are quick to accommodate special requests, be it for dietary preferences or explaining ingredients.
Overall, the restaurant has made great strides in improving its service quality, making the dining experience much more enjoyable without compromising on the authentic Japanese flavors. If you were hesitant to visit due to past service issues, I highly recommend giving it...
