22 Years and still rolling!
Imagine walking into a wild west saloon on a Saturday noon. You swing open the saloon door and your eyes need to adjust to the dim lighting inside. After your eyes get accostomed to the lighting, we sauntered upto the bar which is to the left. Behind it was a pleasantly smiling ‘Raju’ who asked us “Can I help you sirs?”. ”You sure can”, we replied, still standing. Only 2 tables were occupied and the space had a welcoming aura to it. Almost silent except for the retro rock ‘n’ roll sounds of the Eagles wafting through if you strained to listen.
”When did MILLERS 46 first open? I asked Raju. ”2003 Sir”, he replied without a blink. That’s a long, long, time ago. Especially in Bengaluru, reputed for restaurants and eateries opening and closing frequently. Some say it is keeping with the trends, some say blame it on Generation A, who don’t believe in serious eating and frequenting the same place repeatedly. Or like us, just don’t care. But we do care for Bengaluru’s iconic eating spaces like MILLERS 46, Nagarjuna and Karavalli. Yes. We had come here during its opening years, before traffic jams, smoking bans and one ways. Many times.
That is when we chewed on some of the best steaks. The Only Place had them too, but maybe it was the ‘Wild West’ design of the place, the classic rock ‘n’ roll sounds and their fabulous beer and cocktails. As Raju sat us down at one of their corner tables, we got straight to business. The Menu was real, solid and full of delicious meats, as steaks, chunks or in salads. This was no QR Code menu no app required to read that grand menu, like reading all about the band on a vinyl record. This was made of wood and leather too. It was designed keeping serious eaters who enjoy their drinks in mind. We decided on crafted Geist beer while Roger Waters wailed through their speakers cursing the world and its money the Pink Floyd way.
After some bacon wrapped sausages and grilled beef chunks ( we did opt for the sizzler as it would have smoked up the room) we can comfortably say that after all these years, MILLERS 46 still had the best beef and pork like before. The sausages and bacon were from another iconic Bengalure brand ‘THE BANGALORE HAM SHOP’. The beef was juicy and grilled to perfection. The Geist beer was just right to wash the meats down.
The Blueberry and Mango cheese cake as separate desserts, was the right ending to a fabulous meal.
After 22 long years, MILLERS 46 still retains its old charming atmosphere, delicious food, and retro music that plays quietly in the background. The Eagles are still touring the US though they lost a couple of brothers, their album cover welcomes you as walk up the stairs. The finest part was that almost everyone inside was on a ‘Digital Diet’. They were not busy scrolling on their phones. They were conversing, eating and drinking like Bangalore restaurants were once famous for. Google has rated 4.5 stars over its 6000 odd reviews. I give it 5 stars. Go to MILLERS 46 for the food, drinks, atmosphere and the mild retro rock ‘n’ roll music. Don’t walk in alone, like Clint Eastwood.
Please note: The main image shows the cover of the Eagles album. One of the many wild west memorabilia. We were surprised at AI's design ability to design album covers like in this image though this is not the original one...

Read moreMillers 46 is a place that I have been longing to go for a while now. Finally, got the chance to visit with my friends!
Location: Vasanth Nagar. Quite difficult to reach by public transport (from Majestic).
Ambience: Pretty casual American-themed ambience, nothing over-the-top.
Food: This is where it gets interesting. To my surprise, the thing after which the place is named (steak) wasn't that tender/juicy. It was a Twice Marinated Steak and I just asked for medium doneness to retain some juiciness. Should I have gone for the fillet mignon? Or should I have chosen medium rare for doneness? Not sure what exactly went wrong but it was quite chewy, stiff, and not tender at all. The sauce did help with the juiciness though. Not very impressed! We also ordered 46ers Chicken Wings which were quite good. We asked for it to be medium spicy. It was mostly sweet and sour, nothing spicy as such but still good. We had Jamaican Jerk Chicken (Breast) and it was fine too. Once again, the breast itself wasn't very tender as is the case with breast generally. But the sauce really did save the dish once again. My friend ordered Chicken Lasagne which was excellent. I can't usually handle too much pasta or cheese. This one was excellent though. It made a lasagne avoider like me ask for more of it! We also had some Mexican Spiced Chilly Pork. Now, this is very tender, really tender, almost melts in your mouth. I guess there's just a lot of fat in this dish.
Drinks: We had three cocktails: Mai Tai, Sex On The Beach, Florida Sunshine. I also had Baileys Irish Cream. I didn't really enjoy Mai Tai which I was so excited about nor did I enjoy Florida Sunshine. I feel like the problem was that the alcohol content was higher (uses both light and dark rum) than other fruity/citrusy components. I did like Baileys Irish Cream though, it was my first time having an alcoholic chocolate milkshake, I think it is the perfect introduction to alcohol for a beginner, haha! Sex On The Beach was alright, the vodka in it was probably lesser as the fruitiness of the cranberries or oranges overshadowed it. We wanted a sparkling wine cocktail (46'rs Spa Kling) but sadly wasn't available.
Price: Quite expensive. There's no doubt about that. Just a steak costed more than 1000₹. Even the drinks are expensive.
Overall, go here if you would like to try a few steaks or other American dishes such as the Jambalaya while having a drink and chatting with your friends.
Suggestions: Call them directly to book a table. Walk-ins can get difficult at peak hours, especially on weekends. Go for tender cuts of beef such as the fillet mignon or tenderloin if you prefer tender meat. Choose medium or medium-rare if you would like your steak to be more juicy/tender. Ask them to make the 46ers Chicken Wings spicy and be explicit about it. It is not spicy enough for most...
