Si Nonna’s – More Like Si No-no’s
Ah, Si Nonna’s, the so-called home of the original sourdough pizza in JP Nagar. Sounds promising, right? Like stepping into a little piece of Naples? Well, buckle up.
So, they claim to open at 11:00 AM every day. Lies. Rocked up at 11:30, only to be met by a housekeeper who looked at me like I’d just asked for pineapple on a Margherita. Turns out, they open at noon. Brilliant. Oh, and apparently, I also had the air of someone looking for a job interview. No, mate. Just here to eat.
Loitering on the pavement for 30 minutes wasn’t my idea of a good time, so I wandered off to Iris Cafe and returned at 12:30. Just in case the place was still contemplating the concept of opening up for c—yeah, you know where this is going - clients.
Ordered a 12” Chicken Pesto Pizza for takeaway and a Panna Cotta for dine-in. First, they insisted I take a tour of their blackboard specials. This about a dozen options chalked up like some sort of avant-garde poetry slam. Great! Now feed me!
The panna cotta. Or as they call it, “Post Pizza.” Looked like a giant white zit floating in blueberry diarrhoea. Yeah, I said it. And guess what? Tasted even worse. Seen better panna cotta sitting in a half-melted supermarket freezer. ₹429 plus taxes? Absolute daylight robbery.
Meanwhile, the pizza was taking its sweet time. So I wandered over to check on things. And what a bloody circus. Dough kneading? Looked textbook. But weighing the chicken toppings on a bloody scale? Seriously? Come on! Then came the tragic comedy. Every 45 seconds or so, the “baker” and her colleague would peek into the oven like nervous parents checking on a newborn. You know what happened? The first pizza ended up in the bin.
At this point, watching them was more painful than watching England take penalties. So I stopped. Set at 24°C the air conditioner did little to address the comfort. Meanwhile, the waitress, perhaps sensing my growing frustration, aggressively suggested I order more while waiting. Seriously? Feed me what I ordered first, yeah?
While all this was happening, the area manager, yes, this place has one; sat a table away, laughing into his AirPods, conducting some phantom job interviews. At no point did he even pretend to care about the restaurant or the actual customers.
Quick detour to the washroom. Dingy as hell, with random supplies stacked everywhere. The hand towels? Placed so far in, you’d need to be in the NBA to reach them. Just ridiculous.
Billing? Oh, that was another joke. First person had no clue what she was supposed to. The second person finally figured it out. Paid, done, dusted. Only to be told their card machine had an issue. They asked me to double-check if my bank had debited me. Are you kidding? Paid again.
Got home. The family dug into the ₹749 plus taxes pizza. You know what they found? More pesto than chicken. Calling it a chicken pizza was a criminal offence. For that price, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore would serve you something leagues better.
Would I go back? Not even if it was the last pizza joint on Earth.
Si Nonna’s? Si, never again.

Read moreFirst off, the atmosphere is very nice for a pizzeria. It was nice to see that they cared about the quality of ingredients, they had detailed descriptions of the tomatoes, cheese and flour that they use.
But my gripe with this place is the serving sizes. We ordered a calzone which was not much bigger than a veg puff from a local bakery. Taste wise too, it was disappointing. The flavour of the sauce they use didn't shine through much. Although the tomatoes in the sauce were indeed high quality, they hadn't seasoned the sauce well enough in my opinion.
We also had eggplant parmigiana, which was my favourite dish out of everything we tried, quite delicious, but again the quantity was tiny. Barely enough for one person. Also, I thought the eggplant is supposed to be coated and fried, not baked. This came out a bit soggy because it wasn't battered.
Anyways, coming to the main dish, the pizza had a nice light crust with even charring, but wasn't as flavourful as a Brik Oven pizza, which is still the standard to beat in the Bengaluru pizza scene in my opinion. Si Nonna's sauce is slightly lacking, and I felt they were a bit stingy with the basil leaves. The cheese was milky, but it became rubbery way too quick, within like five minutes.
Tiramisu was delicious, but as you can see in the picture I've attached, it seemed as if a bite was taken out of the portion I was served, which looked a bit odd.
Coming to the pricing, I felt it was way too expensive for what the offering is. The pizzas were fine, but the entrees were priced egregiously for the quantity served, and the same goes for the dessert options.
They also had the audacity to charge ₹160 for a can of Coca-Cola, which has an MRP of ₹40. Four times the regular price, for no valid reason at all.
Also, disappointingly, they had a 10% service charge which the staff were hesitant to remove. I don't know why they don't pay their staff more, considering how much they're charging us customers. I don't like this trend of fixed-percentage service charges everywhere in the city these days. The bill came out to be ₹2100ish for two people. Wasn't even full after the meal.
This is a one-and-done...
Read moreThis place is easily visible on the main road itself. We went there for dinner and were thoroughly impressed with the hospitality at the place. The staff was not only professional but also genuinely caring. The warm lighting and cozy decor created a welcoming atmosphere that made it perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The background music was just right—not too loud, allowing for great conversation. Overall, the vibe was inviting and relaxing, enhancing the entire dining experience.
Their 500-year-old mother dough really makes their sourdough unique—strong and full of flavor. However, I was expecting a bit more from the pizzas; they could use some improvement, especially compared to brickoven styles.
We ordered an Eggplant Parmigiana which was so so good. The blend of flavors was perfect, with the juicyness of tomato adding a vibrant touch and the cheese melting beautifully. Adding to that, we had a non-veg special Pizza and a Mushroom veg. Pizza. Now honestly I wouldn’t say that the veg. Pizza was bad but I think I have had better at many other places.
Pricing wise I felt it overly priced as only pizzas are worth eating. And 10% for service charge. And sadly they don't...
