Went back on Sept. 30, 2025. Excellent. Met Tarang Joseph’s and band as well - super! The sound acoustics is audiophile zone. This speakeasy is one of the best in the world. My current favorite cocktail, “One in a million”. // Based on my journey through the Top 50 bars of the world, ZLB23 should be in the list; not just in the Asian list.
A Japanese inspired speakeasy, with a story behind it, about a young lady named Zia.
The cocktails were true to its description and par excellence! My favorites were KYOTO AUTUMN and ZIA'S PALMETTO. The Yuzu Picante had the best presentation though the jalapeño was bit over, clouding other notes. The SHOYU RAMEN is unique, to be taken along with the sea weeds and ramen. Love the creativity. It makes the cocktail extra special just like the insects used in Mexican cocktails.
P.S. would be great if the server could describe the ingredients and the background of the cocktail while being served.
Background( my video to complement the story :)
Zia was a youthful explorer by descent with a natural inclination towards the beauty of the East. So when opportunity presented itself in the form of a map, she took an exploratory leap. Her travels towards untold riches led her to the quaint & quiet town of Kyoto. But while in pursuit of the lost treasure, Zia discovered something far more mysterious.Tucked discreetly into the heart of the city lay a world of transcendental experiences.Where secrets weren't whispered as much as told over conversation and one could speak easy regardless of place and time. The dimly-lit yet vibrant ambience of the establishment featured Japan's most prized liquor served solely by women. The vintage charm served as a disconnect from reality itself. But as welcoming as it was, she wanted her escape hidden away from common eyes.Today, only a few are privy to Kyoto's best...
Read moreIt’s a breezy Saturday evening in Bangalore, and a friend and I are on a quest to uncover ZLB23, a hidden gem whispered about among the city's connoisseurs. The entrance, tucked away and unassuming, feels like part of an exclusive secret.
Inside, we’re transported to the tranquil elegance of Kyoto. The decor is a perfect blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics with minimalist design, and ambient lighting creating a serene atmosphere. A katana mounted on the wall adds an authentic touch, grounding us in the rich cultural heritage that inspires this unique venue.
We find a cozy corner to sit, and the ambiance wraps around us like a warm embrace. The Staff, exuding quiet confidence, suggests we try the Kyoto Blossom, a house special. The first sip reveals an exquisite balance of delicate, floral flavors that capture the essence of Kyoto’s cherry blossoms.

Some fantastic cocktails here. The cocktail menu is split into 2 parts - a Prohibition Era section and a Japanese Inspired section. We tried quite a few cocktails and our favourites were mostly from the Japanese Inspired section. I’d recommend folks to definitely try Shisho Negroni, Yuzu Picante, and the Japanese Old Fashioned cocktails.
Even though ZLB’s claim to fame is from being a cocktail bar, the food here is really fantastic. I would recommend folks to the try Duck and Lobster among the starter dishes; and the Char Kway Teow and Tenderloin among the main courses. Even the cerviche part of the menu has some really good dishes like the tuna tataki and the salmon cerviche.
During our visit there was an awesome reggae band from Shillong called Soulgroove performing there. So that was an added attraction. ZLB invites some nice musicians and bands every now and then.
We had to pay Rs.3000 per pax while making the reservation but that was adjusted in the final bill.
Overall, this is really a good bar with awesome food and some fantastic live music. This place is a must visit if your...
