After considering umpteen places to dine for a team lunch, we froze upon Sizzling Street at the {Big Pitcher} in old airport road. This is not my first visit to Big Pitcher I have been to their other restaurant last time with a different team.
Though we had a good time during my previous visit, the overall service quality wasn't great, but we could not stop talking about the baby corn starter that we unanimously loved.
So this time, I kept my expectations a little low at their buffet restaurant.
But I was pleasantly surprised with both the service as well as the food. The starters were served at the table, some on the plate & some on the table top grill.
The buffet included a choice of drink & I went with an Apple Tiber. I must give credit to myself for choosing this refreshing clear drink with a mild fragrance of elderflower cordial & a tinge of lime | Not an iota of anything apple. The taste reminded me of a frozen icy dessert that I grew up with.
I did sample my colleague's 'My Name Is' drink, again a wonderful cocktail of mango, strawberry with creme & basil seeds (the ones you get in Falooda), again brought back some childhood memories of the drink I grew up trying.
The Dahi Paapdi Chaat served was well balanced, & was a perfectly 'cool' way to get into the meaty route.
The Angara Murg kebab was wonderfully marinated, so was the Malai Machili Kebab, beautiful succulent pieces, well marinated & cooked beautifully. But what stole, most part of the attention was the Mustard Prawns. Small in size, high on flavour, this dish made most of us, asking for a 'Prawn Refill on the Grill' on auto play. The prawns had a very distinct nutty flavour, which made it unique as well as tasty. While I was getting coconut undertones, I was told that it was mostly the mustard that played around with my tastebuds.
Of all the veg starters that we tried, the Paneer Tikka was a stand out, soft & succulent & seasoned well. The Chatpata Mushrooms were grilled well and the Chilli Cauliflower was great too. The veg fingers along with the dipping sauces were a nice end to our starter service & we moved onto mains.
We requested the veg grills to be done separately at the kitchen and not be spread alongside non vegetarian grills & the service staff happily obliged and saved the day for my pure vegetarian colleague.
Too full with the starters (mostly Prawns), I just grazed through the buffet swiftly.
The Chinese Herb Chicken Soup was a classic clear soup, however was a little too salty. That was duly reported & immediately acted upon by the service staff.
I went ahead with trying the veg soup, which was a Pea Purée soup. Surprisingly it was an excellent addition to the buffet, beautiful balance of flavours, seasoned well. Undoubtedly for me the soup was the star of the day, apart from the Apple Tiber off course (and the milk cake, pumpkin halwa...)
I typically dwell more on salads in a buffet, but today gave it a complete miss & jumped right into mains.
Out if the three not so veg mains, the Rara Murg is worth a mention. Nice chunky pieces of meat in a slightly spicy slightly sweet thigh gravy. Would have been a great way for your rotis to be dipped into, but was equally good with the Murg Dum Biriyani. The biriyani itself was good with nice flavours, but definitely not the best you get in Bangalore. Don't get me wrong, this is not a Biriyani specialty place, they are expected to get everything right, & are not known to specialise in one dish. But out of the biriyanis, thrown in as a part of the buffets, this one comes in the top 5.
The fish & noodles were ok, or maybe I was too full to even get a sense of flavours.
The dal was not great, just ok to be likeable not lovable.
Moving on to the dessert course, a huge spread with healthy fresh fruit options & the not so healthy sinners. The Pumpkin Halwa & the Milk Cake was a winner, very traditional flavours.
Overall a great place for a great buffet lunch with your team or your loved ones, had a great time, thank you...
Read moreWent here for a leisurely lunch with some friends on a cloudy and breezy Saturday afternoon. We opted to sit on the top floor as the weather was really pleasant. Tried a plethora of dishes and drinks, below is my detailed review on what should definitely be tried on any visit.
Beers and Cocktails: They had 4 beers available on tap - Kingslayer, Divinorum, Fiefeweizen and Pilsner. A couple of us tried the samplers and then went for Kingslayer and Pilsner variants. Do try them out. Also, the mixologist asked us for preferences in cocktails and concocted some really delightful ones.
Jabardast : Made using vodka, aam panna, green chilli, litchi juice and sour mix, this cocktail has a nice refreshing taste. The underlying taste is of aam panna, so do go for it if you like that taste.
Snow Queen : It looked really pretty and was a bit on the sweeter side. Made on a base of white rum mixed with fresh grape, strawberry, blueberry, some juices and cream. A light and breezy drink.
Cinnamon Groove : Loved the soothing and comforting flavours on this one. Vodka, coconut milk, vanilla syrup and matured cinnamon stick were its ingredients. If you like coconut flavours in a cocktail, this is the one for you.
Mudslide : Another spectacular drink. Has a chocolaty profile as its made with chocolate, honey and butterscotch and on a base of baileys, kahlua and vodka. It surprised me for sure. Didnt expect it to be so good.
The Big B : The prettiest looking drink of the lot and quite potent as well. Base of vodka and rum with lychee, blue curacao, lemongrass and sour mix added to it. The different coloured layers are quite discernible and look stunning. A must try drink.
Hot Toddy : Toddy fans have a pretty good one to try out here. They can make both a regular one and also one with some alcohol added. Very comforting and fits in pretty well with the chilly winters.
FOOD : Ordered the below items to go along with the drinks.
Appetizers-
Grilled Chicken Salad : Thyme flavoured grilled chicken served with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese, topped with some balsamic dressing. A no nonsense and straight up delightful salad.
In the Name of Nachos : I haven't seen nachos this loaded till now and I have tried them at a lot of places. A must have dish definitely.
Maa Kasam Spicy Hai ( Paneer ) : The name is hilarious but the taste is pretty banging. Although its not for you if you cannot handle spice. Made with traditional Maharastrian thecha masala, its quite spicy and yet totally addictive.
Mutton Pepper Dry - Served on bone with loads of pepper flavoured masala, its a safe and delicious appetizer.
4121 Blackened Wings : Crispy, messy and highly indulgent. Go for it.
Schezwan Prawns : Fried prawns tossed in schezwan sauce. A showstopper of a dish. Enough said.
Mains : In mains we ordered dal makhani, tandoori rotis, polo alarking and chicken tikka biryani. Dal makhani was rich and flavoursome. Polo alarking had succulent chicken breast stuffed with chicken mince, mushroom, cheese and served with some veggies and mashed potato. Biryani was also really well prepared.
Desserts - Since there is always room for desserts, so here our order was tiramisu, chocolate volcano cake, double caramel baked cheesecake and gajar halwa. I personally liked the halwa and the chocolate volcano cake. They made my palate sing. A great way to finish off the meal.
Overall, this was another really enjoyable and satisfying visit for me. Excellent drinks paired with some great grub, courteous service and pleasant weather made it one of the best ones. Do take out some time and visit them at your convenience. Highly...
Read moreBig Pitcher is one place that has stood the test of time thanks to their understanding of the customer requirements and the pulse of the market. I have been a regular at this place for years. They serve delectable food and great drinks, not to forget the ambience which has a certain charm to it. Every floor has a different theme and it’s a great place to hang out. The service is very prompt and the staff pay a lot of attention to detail.
I was excited to visit them recently and noticed that they have a new menu. This new menu offers an eclectic mix of items from North and South India as also some continental dishes. The best part is the price. They have reduced the prices of some items on the menu and even the new ones are very affordable considering the quality and the huge portions.
Being a vegetarian, I tried the veg fare but trust me the non-veg fare looks just as awesome.
I tried the following:
Salad – Fuji Apple Fig Salad – Very refreshing
Starters – a) Dahi Anardana Pots – This is a winner. The combo of the hung curd and pomegranate makes the dish top notch. b) Cheesy Garlic Bread – This comes with a salsa twist and definitely recommend it c) Herb Crust stuffed mushroom – Panko crusted mushroom stuffed with herbs and cheese ; very flavourful d) Masala Mandya Vada – This one offers a local flavour and is a nice addition e) Urulai Kara Fry – A Tamilnadu special , this one offers roasted crispy baby potatoes with Madras spices
Main Course – This one will leave you craving for more
a) Pasta di Paprika – I haven’t had a better pasta in ages ; Creamy paprika sauce, caper, sun dried tomatoes and bell peppers add a great flavour to this dish b) Pathankot Palak Paneer – A variant of the palak paneer ; healthy and tasty
Desserts – The desserts here are to die for. I loved every dessert served.
a) Sizzling Brownie – Truly sizzling fresh baked brownies served with vanilla icecream and chocolate sauce b) Hazelnut Chiffon Cake – Dark chocolate lovers will enjoy this one ; divine c) Persian Rose Milk Cake – This is their bestseller and rightly so ; It is sheer magic in every bite d) Chocolate Volcano Cake – Chocolate cake with dark chocolate oozing from the center and served with vanilla ice-cream ; droolworthy
They have a great range of cocktails and mocktails. I loved the Kiss on the lips cocktail and another mango based one. The bartender is very knowledgeable and can prepare you a drink of your choice. They have valet parking too which is an added advantage.
Overall – You are going to fall in love with...
