Visited on May 24, 2025, at around 9:00 PM I visited Valarmathi Mess on a Saturday night, and as expected, the place was quite crowded. I managed to find a seat after a short wait. The dining space is honestly quite small and feels a bit cramped, especially during peak hours. It has a simple mess-style setup with no fancy interiors, but it gives off a very local and authentic vibe. The food did take a while to arrive, but the wait was worth it. I ordered parotta, kola urundai, Pallipalayam chicken, and mutton kothu parotta. Each dish was full of flavor and carried the signature Kongunadu-style spices. The kola urundai was crisp outside and soft inside, and the Pallipalayam chicken stood out with its dry-roast texture and bold masalas. The kothu parotta was rich and satisfying—definitely a great pick for meat lovers. Service was okay given the rush. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, but they were polite and tried their best to attend to everyone. You might need to ask a couple of times for water or side dishes, but overall, they handled the crowd decently. The atmosphere is more about the food than comfort. Pricing is quite reasonable. For the quality and taste, it’s good value for money. It’s no wonder this place is loved by locals and often mentioned in food vlogs and blogs. Many online reviews praise their mutton chukka, brain fry, and other spicy non-veg items too. In summary, Valarmathi Mess is a solid spot for anyone craving authentic Tamil-style non-veg food. It’s not the place for a quiet, leisurely meal, but if you’re looking for bold flavors and homestyle dishes in Coimbatore, this mess delivers. Just be prepared for a bit of crowd and wait time—especially during peak hours.

Food: Chicken & Mutton biryani - Piping hot samba biryani served with sufficient meat; the mutton was succulent but the chicken was a bit layery, though tender it was just OK. 😚😚 The fragrances were all bang on target with a good spice level. Kola urundai - Freaking soft mutton with a crisp outer layer and filled with amazing flavours on the inside; the native taste was evident along every bite, NAMMA OORU MEATBALL 🤩🤩 Mutton chukka - Spicy chukka with small pieces of boneless meat; filled with coriander leaves, this semi gravy had the right amount of spice and sour, MUST TRY 🥰 Pallipalayam chicken - Authentic South-Indian dish with lots of dried red chillies and coconut; too spicy to handle, crunchy from the gravy, UNIQUE🤗 Fried egg - Boiled eggs chopped and tossed in a mixture of pepper, chilli, garam masala etc to form a semi-gravy; the curry leaves with the masala were perfect for the egg😉😉 Masala omelette - Usual omelette stuffed with green chilli and onions; usual finale for any meal down south😊 Ambience/Price: Right from the time the place opens by noon, it gets beefed up with crowds. There might be waiting time during peak hours. The ambience is simple with limited seating in both AC and Non-AC dining areas. Service was decent enough with not much waiting time for any dishes. Parking shouldn't be a problem with ample space on the main road. The price does make everyone happy with such good food served at nominal rates. *Personal rating would be a 4.5

Valarmathi Mess: A Culinary Journey Through Coimbatore Valarmathi Mess in Coimbatore is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey through the heart of Kerala's culinary traditions. This unassuming eatery has garnered a loyal following for its authentic South Indian cuisine, particularly its legendary porotta and nadan chicken curry. The porotta, a flaky, layered flatbread, is prepared to perfection. Its crisp exterior and soft, fluffy interior make it the ideal vessel for the rich, aromatic curries. The nadan chicken curry, a classic Kerala dish, is a symphony of flavors. The tender, succulent chicken is cooked in a spicy, coconut-based gravy that is both comforting and invigorating. While biryani is a popular choice in many South Indian restaurants, Valarmathi Mess encourages diners to explore the diverse range of curries that pair exceptionally well with porotta. Whether it's a fiery beef roast, a tangy fish curry, or a vegetable stew, the possibilities are endless. The ambiance at Valarmathi Mess is simple and unpretentious, focusing on the quality of the food. The friendly staff and efficient service add to the overall dining experience. If you're a food enthusiast visiting Coimbatore, Valarmathi Mess is an absolute must-visit. It's a place where you can savor the true essence of Kerala cuisine, one bite at a time.

From the customer side we have face a very irritating and disgusting Response from the restaurant valarmathi,on 15th September 2024 at 12.20pm afternoon we have ordered a count of three chicken biriyani and we have just waiting for the food delivery,it was 1.30 so we are just waiting for the order, but it took one and half an hour time, so we just check the tracking address of the delivery person, so we just seen it and it was mentioned in Swiggy that just the food is preparing till now, you can wait for another 30 minutes, so when we contacted the person from Swiggy, he told that the food is not yet prepared so it will take some another 30 to 1 hour so you can please cancel your order and you can put it in next hotel, So after listening, this, we got pressure on his side, and we just contacted The Swiggy official customer care so that they said that please wait for some more time it is the mistake from our side So we check it and inform you. You just been hold, and we just waited for sometime for the response, but they said that your order will be delivered in few minutes, so you can just wait for sometime so we have waited for sometime but the food is not yet delivered, so we again contacted with the customer care service of Swiggy second time, but this time also they said the same thing and they did not understand the situation of us because we are in a hurry to travel, but the time is not enough it was a very, very bad response from them And when they contacted the Partner, which is the restaurant manager He just mentioned that due to Onam Festival due to rush, we cannot response quickly, so The order is not taken away. It was a very very waste manner response given by them, so we have just went to a irritated bad mood to complain them into social media and give the worst experience comment in the in the supporting of Valarmathi side. So please, if you want to order a food on a rest day or a rest time, please ensure that you are a good way to order and have patience to buy because it was a very worst situation. Situation. We have contacted for 4 to 5 times to the customer care service. They just said in a bad Manager that you are food will be ordered in. Few minutes So we took a decision that will complain to social media side and customer service side so it was not a good manner to response like Just to a customer just for preparing 3 chicken biryani. They took more than three hours and we received the order at 3 PM from 12 And also a very, very Important note, which should be feeded by me Which is the order is not completely delivered. They only gave just one chicken biryani for us for the whole family. Just one box. It will be enough for me or my family. How can we manage with the food? I just hate delivery manner by them. Do they have sense that the customer is having a difficult situation to buy hate from the customer side that the hotel is not responsible for customers So please, customer stop Ordering food on hot places and hot Times at this hotel, Valathi is waste, Worst restaurant ever which we have ordered in our life, we hate them most most most, so please be aware from this hotel and if the hotel is the review given by me, please change yourself and give a good Res response to your customers. Be responsible for your hotel and your...

After a lapse of four years, I find it necessary to update my review on Valarmathi Mess, a place I have frequented often during this period. Unfortunately, I've observed a noticeable decline in the quality of food, service, and the overall dining experience.

The food quality, once commendable, has taken a sharp downturn. It appears as though the preparation is now entrusted to someone lacking the expertise in crafting authentic South Indian cuisines. This shift has had a significant impact on the taste and appeal of the dishes.

Furthermore, Valarmathi Mess seems to be grappling with insufficient manpower and limited space to accommodate customers adequately. On more than one occasion, I found myself compelled to cancel my order after enduring a waiting period of 20 to 30 minutes. Regrettably, this issue seems to be commonplace, with others expressing similar frustrations.

It's disheartening to observe that the establishment, perhaps riding on its pre-established reputation, appears to have taken a lax approach towards maintaining food quality and providing satisfactory customer service. It gives the impression that they are relying solely on their existing name to drive business, neglecting the crucial aspects of culinary excellence and customer satisfaction.

In conclusion, my recent experiences at Valarmathi Mess have left me disappointed, and I would caution others who may be considering a visit. The decline in food quality and service standards raises concerns about the overall sustainability of the positive reputation they...
