A Journey Through Mughal Flavors at Jahangir’s
Legend has it that Jahangir Saab himself taught Karim Bhai (his nephew) the secrets of the trade, helping establish the famed Karim’s in Chandni Chowk. Intrigued by this rich history, I ventured into the heart of Old Delhi yesterday to experience firsthand the culinary magic that continues to draw crowds.
Located at the busy crossing, the shop might not catch your eye at first, but the irresistible aroma wafting from the tandoors and grills will certainly guide you in. There’s no pretense here—no extravagant decor or flashy ambiance. The seating is simple, but make no mistake, this is fine dining at its best.
Jahangir’s mastery is evident as soon as you take the first bite. Competing with global giants like KFC with his signature chicken wings, he also stands toe-to-toe with 7-star chefs, particularly when it comes to his exquisite kebabs. Whether you prefer khamiri roti, naan, or the soft rumali roti, there’s a perfect pairing for every dish, from the rich nihari to the smoky tandoori murgh. The food is a symphony of flavors, transporting you back to the Mughal era, with each bite more irresistible than the last.
We began our feast with a plate of crispy fried chicken wings, served with a refreshing green chutney, which was a perfect start to the meal. Next, a steaming hot bowl of mutton nihari paired with khamiri roti arrived at our table, and it was nothing short of divine. The slow-cooked mutton melted in the mouth, and the spiced broth was a perfect complement.
Finally, despite being quite full, we couldn’t leave without trying the famous Shammi Kebabs. Soft, delicate, and bursting with flavor, they were the epitome of culinary bliss. Each bite was like a glimpse into the past, where food was crafted with passion and precision.
Jahangir’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a portal to a time of Mughal grandeur, where flavors were bold and hospitality was paramount. If you’re in Chandni Chowk, don’t miss this opportunity to indulge in one of Delhi’s finest dining experiences which comes at very...
Read moreMy office is in Darya ganj and I love to visit new places for lunch wherever the lunch box doesn't come along from my home. So I was discussing with a friend who had been to Jahangeer and was all praises for this place. So today for lunch I ventured out as there was no lunch box today. Located on the main crossing(red light) of netaji subhash marg on the intersection of jama masjid Lane, where once the loha pul (iron walkover bridge) was situated , very close to mahavir vartika, Needless to mention it has almost no parking space. I personally went on a cycle rickshaw. First I couldn't locate the seating area, but upon asking I was guided to a nearby hidden stairway and on the first floor was their seating for about 25-26 people. The kitchen and bill section is in the ground floor. As soon I was seated a attendant approached with a menu card but I had already decided what I wanted to have, so I ordered a portion of fried chicken legs and half plate of Mutton seekh kebabs along with Fresh soft rumali roti's. Within no time the order of fried chicken legs along with rumalis was ready the seekh kebabs too a little time to prepare. Fried Chicken legs- three crisp fried succulent chicken legs(drums) almost a KFC style but much juicy and fresh and crunchy were served with some chat masala sprinkled on top. I have never had better fried chicken ever. Mutton Seekh kebabs were so tender that they would break with almost no or little effort. They were fresh and the juices were overflowing. The flavours were marvellous and they went along very well with the Rumalis. Service was quick and swift, the outlet was clean yet had some flys and small flying insects, the air conditioning was nice. Overall a great experience. Would visit them for the...
