For most of the Delhiites, MKT is synonymous with AMA Café and Busan Restaurant. What they tend to miss in this place with ubiquitous Pan-Asian restaurants is under appreciated gems such as Bhutanese Tara Restaurant which serves a taste which is close to home but outlandish enough that it sends your taste buds on an exquisite and tantalizing journey. Complementing the delectable assortment of traditional Bhutanese and Indochinese dishes, is the aesthetic interior, which when paired with the tranquillizing music alleviates all your woes and worries. They provide multiple seating options as per your convenience. If you want the authentic experience and vibe, you can sit at the low floor tables. If that is not your jam then you can opt for the more familiar table and chair arrangement. Lastly, they also have some chairs in their balcony which can serve as either a place to take a quick smoke break or to just sit and enjoy your drinks while watching the sun dawn over the magnificent signature bridge. On the topic of drinks they do serve a decent selection of liquors. Ranging from light liquor like beers to some of the more stronger spirits like whiskies and rums, there is something for everyone. Apart from being reasonably priced, all the liquors are accompanied with roasted peanuts giving you a complete drinking experience. I would suggest trying Druk, a mellow beer imported straight from Bhutan. It has a fruity and earthy taste with a mildly sweet undertone unlike its Indian counterparts which usually have a bitter aftertaste. Contrary to the rather limited drinks menu, the food menu gives us a wide plethora of choices to choose from. This time we decided to stick with the appetizers and didn't delve much into the entrées. Starting with the infamous Chili Potato it was up to the mark. Not too ridiculously spicy, it had a subtle chili flavor with a hint of garlic. We then moved on try the various dumplings they had to offer. Buff Momos, Chicken Kothe Momos, and Cheese Aloo Momos. They were tender and each bite was accompanied with a burst of flavorful juices in your mouth. Then we tried the more Sino-Indian dishes like Chicken Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. They were up to the standard you would expect from a good Asian place. We ended our gastronomical journey with a traditional deep fried Bhutanese dish called Shabaklab. If I had to describe it, I would say its like a Gujjiya but with chicken stuffed inside it. After ordering 7 dishes and almost 6 beers, our total was around 3k which is very reasonable as compared to some of the more popular choices in the area. The economical price, good food and calming vibe isn't the only reason that I called the place a under appreciated gem. It has gathered a small but loyal fanbase over the years which is a testament to the polite and heart warming behavior of the owner. The place feels more like a cozy second home than a place of commerce all of which has been made possible by the dedicated service of the staff. So make it a must on your next MKT trip to visit this place and have a calming and...
Read moreFirst time visiting this cafe, me and my 2 friends were sitting in the balcony area and waiting for anyone to show up. We called someone but nobody came up for 5 minutes. “Maybe” they were busy but when a waiter came, he asked rudely whether we want to order or not. Ignoring him the first time, we ordered. Our order arrived, the watery cold coffee, extra sweet ice tea and soggy french fries. We still had it because no matter what, we’d had to pay. After a while, we ordered noodles to which the waiter asked if the order was a parcel. He wanted us to go and i couldn’t think a single reason why. All 3 of us were really uncomfortable with his remark. When confronted, the waiter just smiled and left. The noodles arrived, which we ate and left. Also the noodles were ok, i mean any chinese van makes better noodles. He didn’t have to be snarky about it. He could have politely asked us to leave. I mean if you don’t have good food or good ambience please try to be good humans. No wonder it was empty when we were there. Only people who were enjoying was smoking up joints. I think it is the only reason people go there. Overpriced menu and overrated food. I don’t recommend you going there. Also never order green tea. I did and did not touch after its first sip. Felt like soap water. We then went to Kalandak cafe. It is near this cafe only. Kalandak cafe has super chill vibes, gooood food, great ambience and excellent staff. It is must...
Read moreNot even worth 1 star. I would give 0 stars. Poor hospitality, very rude servers. My friends and I left the place after ordering. The reception lady was very rude, idk how she is running a resturant! We were just seated when we got a cupcake ( new addition to the menu), we thought it must be a complimentary service for new visitors. Later the reception lady came howling at us saying why are you eating it! We said that it must have been a complimentary service, and also if it wasn't then we added it to the menu we ordered. But she continued to argue with us. We left after not even eating half of the cake and paid full for it. Even as we did that she was very disrespectful. Never coming back to this resturant again. Bhutanese resturant they say eh? Have they even been to Bhutan? If it was owned by a Bhutanese, they would have acted in the most kindest manner like any Bhutanese! Bad service, even...
