This day we (three of us besties) wanted to devour proper Northeast or Tibetan style food. And what better than the authentic places in 'Majnu ka Tila'. So we went there and zeroed in on Rigo which is already famous amongst foodies in Delhi so much. I had been there quite long back 2-3 times. But this visit now was after long hiatus. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The restaurant is for fine dining and is located on third floor (yes, you have lift in case you're wondering!). It's quite spacious and the tables are well spread. The ambience is quite soothing and pleasant. The staff is prompt and friendly. After much contemplation and discussion we ordered #CHICKEN THUPKA, #CHARSUI PORK, #STEAMED CHICKEN MOMO, #SHAPTAK CHICKEN, #CHILLY GARLIC PORK, #FRIED RICE PORK (DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT NAME OF THIS). And for drinks #COLD COFFEE, #VIRGIN MOJITO, AND #MINT COOLER(DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT NAME AGAIN HERE).
The service is swift; no complaints on that area whatsoever. The dishes started coming one after another without much delay. The quantity is very generous per dish. I had much difficulty in finishing the dishes, and mind you that I'm beast when it comes to food. Like literally!! So imagine the amount they serve per dish. But don't go wrong with the taste, for it's impeccable. For each and everything it was extremely delicious. The perfect presentation of the dishes further increases your appetite even before you devour them. Pricing is on the cheaper side so it's like a steal deal everytime you visit here.
The only part I didn't like much was that there were two Punjabi families so they started playing hardcore Punjabi songs. I have nothing against Punjabi songs, but it got too too much after a certain point. As I like mixing of songs from different languages. I requested them to change to Northeastern or English songs too. They changed momentarily but then back again to repeated Punjabi ones. I'm feeling inclined to reduce one star for this, but I'm not doing it for the place has served me well over many years over my numerous visits to the place.
A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PLACE FROM MY END. An absolute crowd pleasure, especially if you want to fine dine like a king on a tight budget. This is the place you go. A lovely place I would love to visit again and again in single blink of eye...
Read morehis restaurant has the kind of interiors, ambience and authenticity in its food, along with the location of the wonderful Tibetan colony, that can transport you from Delhi to the peaceful lands of Tibet. Specific details on the food later (I only had the Ema Datsi, Tingmo and Kiwi Crusher and all were lovely in terms of palate and price), because a complete review is impossible without describing the area that this restaurant was created and has blossomed in.
I somewhat knew of the Tibetan refugee colony in Majnu ka Tila and had seen more than a few Tibetan faces every time I had to board a bus there. After wrapping up some work with a bus operator I began to wander the streets and was met with a very small gully between three to four storied buildings that looked more like a Himalayan village lane than the streets of Old Delhi. Filled with shops for ethnic Tibetan clothing, accessories, show pieces and a number of road side eateries, hotels, cafes and restaurants. This one full lane was fully Tibetan in style and culture. I wasn't hungry but knew that trying out one of these places is a must(I had Thupka on my mind which is the only Tibetan dish I knew of).
In front of me stood the board for a restaurant with the name written in Tibetan. Naturally, I had to go in. The name was Rigo Restaurant and I decided to simply order a dish I knew nothing about. The Rigo Specials had a number of options and Ema Datsi, Bhutanese chilli cheese with meat seemed like a good choice. I ordered it with chicken and the waiter suggested to have some rice or bread with it and recommended Tingmo bread. I added a Kiwi Crusher to wash it all down with.
The essence of Kiwi in the Crusher was natural and ample, better than any Kiwi based drink I've ever had(I really like Kiwi). The Tingmo is a maida based roti wrapped around itself in a huge ball shaped and designed to look like a huge momo(it really is huge). It is fluffy and surprisingly tasty for just bread. First thing that struck me about the Ema Datsi was the amount. It was a full meal and I wasn't hungry. But once I started on it I gorged it up like I was breaking a fast. Strongly recommend to visit this place. Can even spend an evening at...

On Rakshabandhan, after completing all the rituals, we decided to go out and landed at our favorite spot, Majnu-ka-Tilla (MKT). It’s always our go-to place for a good time whenever I meet with my cousins, especially on special occasions. After battling through traffic for over an hour, we finally reached MKT around 8:30 pm and chose a nearby restaurant, Rigo, almost at random. It turned out to be one of our best decisions.
From the outside, Rigo looks quite simple, and I honestly didn’t expect much. But stepping inside was a pleasant surprise. The place isn’t flashy, but it has a unique charm with its decor of antiques, historical images, and portraits. The attention to detail was evident, from the traditional attire of the staff to the matching tableware and instruments, all of which created an authentic and thoughtful ambiance.
We were exhausted and quickly grabbed seats, settling in and relaxing for a bit. My brother suggested we try their Devil Momos and fried rice, mentioning that the momos were a specialty. We went ahead and ordered them.
However, the service left much to be desired. They mistakenly brought us fried momos instead of fried rice, and instead of acknowledging the error, they denied it repeatedly. We were on the verge of leaving when they finally agreed to correct the order. When the correct dishes arrived, the Devil Momos didn’t live up to their spicy reputation, but the fried rice was excellent. We also ordered noodles later, which turned out to be the best I’ve ever had.
Overall, the food at Rigo was good, especially the noodles and fried rice. But the experience was marred by poor customer service, as the staff was rude and reluctant to admit their mistake. I would recommend the place for its food and ambiance, but be prepared for some potential...
