Ambience - 10/10 Staff service and hospitality - 10/10 Food - Divine - 10/10
Word of caution - This gem of a place which we stumbled upon, is very much sought after by foodies, so please book your table in advance to avoid any disappointment.
We were lucky to get a table without a booking (agree we sinned...).
This restaurant roughly 500 mtrs from Miramar circle, we were staying in Miramar residency and after scouting for nearby restaurants thought of trying our luck of getting a table without any advance booking, and voila were we lucky !!. It was raining unusually in November on day and little drenched in rains so were a bit apprehensive on getting a table. However the staff were polite to entertain us and requested us to wait for a while, as all the tables were almost full.
After a while we got a very comfortable sitting for my family of 3. As were hungry and the menu looked very very promising, we just pounced on it. We ordered large prawns and Batate Kaap for starters, followed by Chicken Cafrael and Poi (they serve only Poi.... that is one more thing I was searching and my search ended here thankfully), Red rice with Goan curry (this was particularly veg, which is the only place we could find as my better half is pure veg and she likes Goan curry but has to avoid it due to the fish cooked in it). To soar my spirits I ordered Cashew Urak (The best drink I was seeking over a week while I was in Goa and this was the only place I could get it in Miramar). The staff was kind enough to serve us complimentary Squids as starters.
Each dish was uniquely prepared and beautifully served. The ambience and the food took me back to my childhood when I used to get the same taste when I used to visit my maternal hometown in Fountainhas, Panjim. The place gives vibe of comfort and solace while we enjoy the drinks and food, absolutely susegado. It is decorated with beautiful photos and utensils which we would otherwise rarely get to see.
The staff are kind enough to enquire on whether we are enjoying the food. One would argue that the dishes are pricy compared to the likes or Konkan Kanteen or Ritz (i enjoyed food there too... no complains), but I personally feel the ambience and the food taste in Mums kitchen is absolutely homely served with a personal touch of care. We just loved it.
I would like to take opportunity to thank the founders and the staff who make this gem of a place worth what it is.
100% recommended by me, we would surely visit this place again. This time we will book the table in...

Read moreEstablished in 1997 Mum’s Kitchen has preserved the authentic Goan recipes by traveling to the far corners of Goa and learning it from the women who have been passed down this knowledge from their mothers. There are no chefs at Mum's kitchen, rather the food is prepared by the local Goan women, giving you the dishes that taste of flavourful nostalgia. Mums Kitchen gives a
feeling of being out in nature rather than in the heart of Panaji as you are surrounded by the luscious greenery. You experience the true Goan vibes in the decor, with the Goan styled tiled tables, plates, tradional ragda and photographs that adorn the wall. The staff is impeccably trained and greet you with a smile. It always feels good when your work is rewarded and that can be seen by all the awards that are adorned on their wall. The menu is lists out Goan specials, it is personalised with each dish being named after the person who provided the recipe. We tried the following dishes from the menu:
Kombdechem Sukhem: This is a recipe obtained from the Goan ghats. The Chicken pieces are cooked in a tangy tamarind gravy which is subtly spiced. This is a dish that I would highly recommend, as every mouthful is an enriching experience.
Bharleli Keli: It is a fusion of modern and traditional cooking. The sweet Moira bananas are stuffed with a salty green chutney, the sweet salty taste compliment each other well, slight crunch is provided by being fried in semonlina.
Solantule: Pork is cooked in semi dry masala with slight sounress brought out by the sola, it is paired up well with a crunchy salad.
Tisryanche Sukhem: A Goan classic, the clams cooked in dry spices with grated coconut.
“Vilasniche Hooman”: The dish is named after its maker Vilasni, it is a Hindu way of preparing the Prawn curry. The addition of ladyfinger gives a nice flavor to the coconut based curry.
Crepe Mum: Definitely a must try if you have a sweet tooth. The pancake is light and fluffy, topped with ice cream and chocolate, the addition of jaggery and coconut elevate the dish while the cashew nuts provide a...
