We visited on week day and ordered multiple dishes had a mixed experience at a restaurant. Positives: Weekday visit: Less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed dining experience but service was a bit slow. Beverages: Enjoyed the selection and quality of drinks. Trivandrum fried chicken: A standout dish that was well-executed. Beetroot cutlet: A flavorful and unique appetizer. Chicken 65: A classic dish that lived up to expectations. Curry leaf prawns: A delicious seafood option with a fragrant curry sauce. Chicken roast: Good flavor, but the portion size could have been larger. Appam and egg appam: Both were well-prepared and enjoyable. Malabar paratha: A satisfying accompaniment to the other dishes.
Negatives: Pepper paneer: The flavor was bland, and the price point didn't justify the quality. Paneer ghee roast: The flavor was also described as "just flat." Chicken biryani: While the portion was decent, it lacked the authentic biryani flavors. Allepy chicken curry: While not to your liking, it's like a thai cury.
Overall: You rated the restaurant 3.5 out of 5, acknowledging its decent dining atmosphere but expressing that it's not your personal favorite. They gave free...
Read moreWent for dinner, on a weekday. This authentic Kerala cuisine restaurant is located on the 1st floor in Panjim, opp the creek (Rua de Ourem). Greeted by the very proactive Ops Manager, Yatish, whose in-depth knowledge is useful in dish selection. Drinks: Boozy iced filter coffee (most unique cocktail ever). Starters: Curry Leaf prawn - super batter fried prawns, Kerala style. Beef cutlets - 3 decent pcs, yummy. Entrée: 'Roast pork & raw banana'. Appams. - super, must try ! Kingfish thattu (a Kerala style fish thali @Rs 450) - tasty & sumptuous; though must most definitely include a sweet dish!. Dessert: 'Pazham puri' (mentioned in "Bar Bites" section !?) - the famous Kerala banana, sliced length-wise, & batter fried - tasted nice, though could do with a thicker batter, as in Kerala. (Took parcels of Thalaserry pepper beef Curry, & chicken biryani - both were excellent). Both partners were very proactive & knowledgeable, making the dining experience special. Note: their Thalis (Thattu) - veg & fish, are also available at dinner time. Would very strongly recommend you try out this restaurant, for authentic Kerala cuisine....
Read moreStumbled upon Chakos whilst driving mindlessly in Panjim. Never had Malabar cuisine earlier - cannot vouch for what’s what and how true it hits home. That being said, the food was an absolute delight, and the people waiting on the tables are sweeter than their payasam.
The two of us ordered starters, mains and drinks in a single go, and the waiter presumably missed to pass on the veg main course to the kitchen (honest mistake, I believe). The slightly hangry vegetarian amongst us made our displeasure clear to the wait - who was nothing but apologetic, and came through with a replacement appam (which was waiting cold by then), a complimentary parotta (worthy enough to get a repeat order), complimentary payasam for the two of us and a fortune cookie (the Indian version, whatever it is called).
Left fuller than before - hungrily and emotionally. Kudos...
