If I could rate this place in minus, I would!
This so called "Instagrammable" heritage restaurant is suppose to be a must do when in Goa but it's nothing short of a major disappointment. The staff was so unfriendly, and when I was checking on recommendations and they just pointed me to the glass display. In disdain, I ordered a few dishes since veg options are so limited. The price point is average but the food, below average. Just look at the pictures and you'll know this place is just another lazy attempt at keeping some old receipes alive. The sandwich was a poor attempt at piecing some random ingredients together and throwing them on a pan and taking them out just before they burn. The coffee was OMG, not the OMG as in wow but ewwww - it was water mixed with some instant coffee and ice oh but thanks for throwing in some chocolate sauce - asthetics you see. There were used tissues in the area we sat at and yes, it definitely was an issue. This place is unnecessarily hyped by some influencers, you'll find some old dirty and dusty fake flower decor outside, trust me and save yourself from dust allergies. The inside not only feels claustro but is so filthy. Too strong a word - just see the pics. Chipped walls, dust ridden furniture, cushions that haven't been washed since the Portuguese left! All in all, you can definitely give this a miss. Not worth the hype and a super mega let down of a place. There are much better and humble places in Goa to explore. Hope I've saved you some...

You can just ignore all the good reviews for this place and just go on my recent experience. Another reason why you should go on my review as I have already travelled 60% part of good india and have tried various foods.
I don't think that the lady on the reception have seen the world may be that's the reason she doesn't know how to treat the world.
After the suggestions of one social media influencer I went there with my partner as my partner was very excited to see this place and taste some of the items.
We have ordered Two cold coffee, Brownie and one chocolate cake.
We have been provided with chocolate Shake instead of cake and when my partner informed the lady about the incorrect order she refused to even look into it and we had to pay for the item that we haven't even order. We have ignored this as money is not a problem for us.
But when we have tasted rest of the item they turned out to be WORST of their kinds.
95% WATER + 5% SUGAR AND FLAVOURS that's the formula of their cold coffee.
You trust my words the worst THELA WALA/SMALL SHOPS of any other part of india has got better taste than them.
We haven't said a word there as we wanted the World to know about this extremely overrated place.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE JUST AFTER WATCHING SOME videos SHITY...
Read moreConfiteria 31 de Janeiro is a charming little gem tucked away in Fontainhas. We stopped by during our recent trip and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their pastries and the overall old-world café vibe.
We ordered a few items, and the highlight was definitely their desserts. The chocolate éclair was rich, creamy, and just the right level of sweetness—absolutely satisfying. We also tried a slice of cake (I wish I remembered the name) that was truly outstanding—moist, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. It’s the kind of dessert you want to go back for. The kokum drink was another surprise—it was refreshing, slightly tangy, and worked really well on a warm day.
The only disappointment was the mango shake. At ₹300, it felt overpriced for what was served. The flavor was quite average and didn’t match the richness or freshness you’d expect at that price point. Compared to their excellent pastries, this felt like a miss.
The ambiance is warm and relaxed, making it a perfect stop while exploring the colorful bylanes nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the service was fairly quick despite it being moderately busy.
All in all, Confiteria 31 de Janeiro offers a lovely experience for those with a sweet tooth. Just skip the mango shake and dive straight into the pastries—you won’t be disappointed. We’ll definitely return to try more from their menu next time...
