Stumbled on Longuinhos Bar, Restaurant & Confectioners while exploring Margo market and found a charming old world spot that lives up to its reputation as a local favourite. The place is well kept and gives a genuine vintage feel that suits its menu of traditional Goan dishes. The owner, Ivo Almeida Coutinho, personally welcomed me, shared stories about the restaurant and his involvement in Konkani cinema, and even gifted me a copy of his cookbook, A Day in a Goan Kitchen. Service felt personal and unhurried, the food was authentic and satisfying, and the atmosphere is ideal for anyone who enjoys food with a side of history. Great for a leisurely lunch or an evening when you want something real and unpretentious.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience authentic Goan home style food and warm local hospitality. Visit when you have time to sit and savor the meal and the stories.
A lovely slice of Goan tradition in the middle of the market. Thank you to Ivo for the hospitality and the cookbook....
Read moreLonguinhos is celebrating their 75th year now. Walk in and you shall find an unpretentious local watering hole that looks it's age but is spicy and span (unlike some "heritage" food spots that never add a coat of paint or clear the cobwebs in the name of preserving character).
The menu card is unashamedly Goan with a few concessions to other crowd favourites. My vegetarian family had limited choice while I was wolfing down the sausage rolls and prawns Tawa Fry.
Everything and everyone inside Longuinhos is above 45 years of age and all the patrons seem like regulars. The service is soft spoken and gentle, the music is soft local numbers that even I as an outsider am aware of.
If I lived nearby and were a drinking person, this would be my favourite watering hole. This is my second visit to Longuinhos and if you are an old soul (that's very different from old aged, my friend) you will...
Read more65-year-old eatery started by Longuinho Almeda in the year 1950, Longuinhos is the stuff history is made of. It is something of a legend in Margao where locals and tourists alike visit it for its old-Irani-café-like ambience and superlative food. Add to that a long-standing team of employees and you have the magic that keeps it going. For example, Mario Fernandes, an employee has been serving customers at the restaurant for the last 35 years and the manager, Mr. Inacio, who spoke to us, has been here for the last 21 years. That says a lot about how well the owners treat the team.
Cuisine-wise, it’s best known for its Goan food – Fish curry rice, Beef Steak, Chicken Cafreal, Pork Vindaloo, Banchao, Sorpotel and of course, all the sea food it offers. It has an in-house bakery that bakes rolls, cakes and other snacks. The menu includes Chinese and Tandoori...
