Read moreAssagao is home to some of the best restaurants offering the finest culinary experiences in Goa. From food that is inspired by southern Indian flavours to American barbecue, Assagao is playing up some real good food for tourists.
Bengali food, although is extremely popular, never really made it big outside of West Bengal. Wherever there are Bengali restaurants outside of West Bengal, it is largely to cater to the local Bengali population. But I guess, Mustard Cafe, Assagao has beautifully challenged the convention and used Bengali food & recipie as the baseline-food to serve up happiness.
I keep travelling to Goa twice or thrice a year. And everytime I come, I explore a new place. Yesterday, it was Mustard Cafe. Thankfully, I had booked my Christmas lunch with them almost 2 weeks in advance. There weren't too many people there when we went, but in no time it was full.
We hit the ground running with some kasundi chicken, paneer chop/cutlet and a few Lavendar Lady cocktails. Can't point my finger to which was the best - but I guess, I'll settle for the cocktail as I had 3 of it.
After that, we ordered Fish Paturi, Radhaballavi-Subzi combo, FishFry and mutton. The mutton, fish fry and the fish Paturi was to die for. Absolute peach!
The service could have been a little better. But hey, with a full-house, and continuous orders, not much that people can do. But I saw the barman rolling up his sleeves to come & help the regular service team. Now that's team work. They are a bunch of nice & warm people.
A special shout out to Shreyas. He makes the finest cocktails in Goa. The Lavendar Lady was his invention for Christmas. Hope that drink makes it to the regular menu, for all the Christmas to come.
These people made my Christmas lunch...

The concept that brings these both cuisine under same roof is "Mustard". A condiment used liberally in both French and Bengali kitchens. French menu is curated by Chef Gregory Bazire and Bengali menu is curated by Pritha Sen.
