Good ol fashioned place that hit the spot! I had been craving for some proper mutton without having to spend 5 star prices and as many know, Goa is not so big on this meat. Wandering through the back roads of the colourful Fontainhas I discovered this charming eatery. The place is certainly neat and clean, offering seating for perhaps a handful of families. I didn't hesitate in ordering the Mutton Biryani and was pleased with the quick service. I took just a few seconds to savour the aromas before digging in. The meat was tender and tasty and the rice cooked just right, this biryani was a true delight! All those months I had waited for some good mutton suddenly vanished. This was a solo mission so it was just me and the meal. No chit chat, no fancy ambience. Just pure enjoyment while forgetting what is happening in the outside world. Felt sad once the plate was empty but my tummy assured me that this was more than satisfying. I highly recommend this place if tasty food is the priority. Prices are reasonable too. I casually noticed other patrons ordered fish thalis which looked pretty good. I plan to try the mutton curry next... can't wait! The place is located in some small lanes so don't expect to find parking right outside. You can find parking near the Crown on MG road or the...
Read moreMost unpleasant experience I've had in a long time. Visited this place on the recommendation of Sean Coutinho. Ordered 1 full and 1 half plate of mutton biryani. The place was crowded with barely any place to stand. After waiting 20 mins for a tiny side table to sit at, we then had to endure the painfully loud, headache-inducing screeches of the server women and manager who for some reason have decided that their preferred choice of communication is screaming highpitched orders at the top of their lungs across the restaurant. After the nearly tear-inducing 35 min wait we were served with 2 identical looking plates. On looking more closely the plates differed in diameter by about 1 cm - the apparent difference between a full and half pakiza biryani. I can't describe the horror of finding out these identical looking biryanis were priced at 260 and 170 rupees respectively. I wish I had thought to take a picture at the time but all I wanted to do was leave. The biryani itself was below average, the taste further depreciated by the atmosphere. Even reliving this experience while writing this review has rekindled my distaste...
Read morePakiza a lunch Home for Home-Style Goan Food After waiting for 30 minutes at Kokni Kanteen and realizing it would take another 40-45 minutes, I asked for another lunch recommendation and was directed to Pakiza, just a 10-minute walk away. Pakiza feels like you’re dining in someone’s home – it’s a simple, no-frills place serving delicious, home-style Goan food. I tried the fish curry thali, which reminded me of my mom’s cooking. It included a small portion of fish curry with a tender fish piece, channa curry, lady’s finger sabji, birinda kadi (a light, tangy sol kadhi without coconut milk), and crispy lepo fry (sole fish). Though I couldn’t try much as I was dining alone, I heard their mutton curry rice is excellent. I did manage to sample a small portion of their mutton biryani, which was flavorful. At just Rs. 150 for the fish curry thali, thumbs-up, and papad, the meal was simple, delicious, and great value for money. If you’re in Panjim and want authentic, home-style Goan food, Pakiza is...
